Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Senior Underwriter specializing in Marine and Specialty insurance lines to manage and enhance our underwriting operations. The successful candidate will lead underwriting activities for marine cargo, hull, yacht, marine liability, fine art, jewelry, plant and equipment, and freight liability.

Key Objective

The individual in this role will identify and assess risks, develop strategies for profitable growth, and provide expert advice to stakeholders, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.

Major duties and responsibilities
  • Evaluate and underwrite risks related to marine cargo, yacht, hull, marine liability, fine art, jewelry, and other specialty lines in accordance with company guidelines and policies.
  • Develop and execute strategies to achieve profitable growth, optimize portfolio performance, and ensure competitiveness within the marine and specialty insurance markets.
  • Provide expert advice and solutions to intermediaries, clients, and internal stakeholders on complex underwriting matters.
  • Regularly analyze market trends, monitor portfolio performance, and proactively adjust underwriting strategies.
  • Collaborate effectively with sales, claims, product development, and operations teams to provide comprehensive insurance solutions.
  • Ensure strict compliance with regulatory requirements and internal underwriting standards.
  • Mentor junior underwriters, enhancing their technical knowledge and professional capabilities through ongoing training and support.
  • Employ strategic thinking and clear, professional communication to negotiate effectively, ensuring mutual respect and clarity in interactions.
  • Set firm yet fair boundaries in negotiations, framing positions as beneficial and fostering a collaborative approach.
  • Undertake other responsibilities and/or projects as and when assigned.
