Job description
Manufacturing Engineer (Electrical Circuitry Specialist)

Location: Penang Island, Malaysia (On‑Site)

An Exciting Opportunity: Where Design Meets the Production Floor

Are you an electrical engineer who finds themselves wondering why a circuit behaves a certain way rather than just if it works? Do you enjoy the challenge of finding strategic part substitutions or carefully redesigning subassemblies to optimize performance?

Our client is a global MNC leader in high‑performance instrumentation, enabling advanced customization in a low‑volume / high‑mix environment. We are seeking a curious Manufacturing Engineer with a deep foundation in electrical circuitry to join the multidisciplinary team in Penang. This is not a high‑volume, repetitive assembly line role; it is a "low‑volume, high‑complexity" environment where you will act as the technical bridge between R & D and production.

The right passionate candidate will enjoy asking deep technical questions around how components, subassemblies and product performance can be improved. You may even enjoy designing your own prototypes or experiments to test new methods out (or perhaps you are even in a test engineer type of role). A role like this is quite unique in a truly exciting firm where experimentation is encouraged!

The Role: Including Product Lifecycle Ownership

In this role, you won't just manage a process; you will own the electrical integrity of our client’s specific characterization tools from concept to obsolescence. You will manage the Product Life Cycle (PLC) through a rigorous journey:

  • Concept & Feasibility: Provide early vendor and supplier input, performing risk assessments on new manufacturing concepts.
  • Development: Drive PLC requirements, perform "proof of manufacturing" on beta systems, and create robust test plans.
  • Scale‑up & Sustaining: Lead the transition of new products into operations, manage Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), and troubleshoot complex PCBA issues.
  • Global Support: Provide sustaining engineering expertise for manufacturing plants in both Malaysia and the US.

Training will be provided along with strong support, but we are looking for good electrical engineering theory/foundations so you may overcome the learning curve quickly and truly master your role.

As this is a varied role, we don't require proficient knowledge in absolutely all areas. We understand candidates will have strengths in certain domains over others.

Your Technical Impact

We are looking for a candidate who possesses a "design mindset" within a manufacturing context. You will be expected to:

  • Master the Circuitry: Use your experience in digital and analog circuit design to troubleshoot failures and provide design improvements.
  • Strategic Problem Solving: Lead part substitution efforts—such as identifying alternative capacitors or components when originals become obsolete—ensuring manufacturing part numbers and tolerances meet strict performance standards.
  • Design for Excellence: Create schematics, PCB layouts (using various tools), and design electrical assemblies for instrumentation control and data acquisition.
  • Hands‑on Verification: Build and test prototypes, develop tooling and fixtures, and act as the product expert to coach and train technicians.
Requirements
  • Electrical Expertise: Strong background in electrical and automation assembly designs, including experience with motor‑driven assemblies. If you are a masters holder or PhD holder who is hands on with strong foundations but limited experience, please don’t hesitate to apply as well.
  • Circuit Design Skills: Proven experience with schematic capture and PCB layout tools (digital and analog).
  • Analytical Curiosity: The ability to generate a range of solutions and choose the most appropriate one for complex instrumentation.
  • Proactive Mindset: A "self‑starter" who will chase answers and drive projects independently across global teams.
  • Global Collaboration: Ability to travel overseas for 2–4 months in the early phase for product transfer and advanced training.
  • Communication: Comfortable with some level of weekly evening calls to coordinate with international engineering teams. There will be a good culture employed to manage the work load and introduce additional rest time where required.
Why Join?

This is truly an exciting role that offers a unique opportunity to gain massive exposure to the entire business—from project management and sourcing strategies to deep‑dive technical troubleshooting. You will be part of a growing team that is scaling up to support advanced automated systems. You will work together with excellent engineers that are passionate about experimentation.
