A prominent broadcasting association is seeking a Manager for Publications & Communication to enhance its visibility and outreach efforts. The candidate will lead editorial projects, manage communication strategies, and engage media relations, requiring substantial experience in journalism and broadcasting. The Manager, Publications & Communication plays a key role in enhancing the visibility, reputation, and outreach of the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU)through mass communications, media relations, and high-quality publications. This position requires an accomplished media professional with strong expertise in journalism, editorial management, broadcasting, and research, capable of transforming ABU’s diverse initiatives into compelling narratives for members, partners, and the public. The incumbent will lead the planning and production of ABU publications, manage communication channels and mass communication initiatives to engage audiences at scale, and ensure alignment with the Union’s mission of promoting public service media in the Asia-Pacific region.
Lead the planning, editorial development, and production of ABU’s official publications, including ABU Magazine, ABU@Glance, reports, brochures, and special issues.
Commission, edit, and write articles, interviews, and feature stories reflecting ABU’s work across news, technology, media development, and sustainability.
Ensure accuracy, clarity, and consistency in editorial content in line with ABU’s standards and overall communication strategy.
Oversee layout, design, translation, and distribution in collaboration with internal teams and external vendors.
Develop and implement ABU’s communication strategy to enhance visibility and strengthen engagement with members, partners, and the public.
Manage and update digital communication platforms, including ABU’s website, newsletters, and social media channels.
Coordinate press releases, public announcements, and media coverage for ABU events and initiatives.
Cultivate strong relationships with journalists, broadcasters, and media outlets to increase ABU’s regional and international exposure while effectively reaching and engaging audiences at scale.
Draft speeches, statements, and communication briefs for the Secretary-General and senior officials.
Support the preparation of campaign materials and advocacy content for ABU’s key programmes, such as ABU Ai, Saving Lives, Media Literacy, and Diversity & Inclusion.
Conduct research and analysis on media trends, audience engagement, and broadcasting innovation to inform content strategy.
Coordinate production of knowledge-based materials, including case studies, best-practice compilations, and multimedia stories.
Collaborate with ABU departments and external partners to ensure evidence-based communication and effective storytelling.
Provide communication and editorial support for ABU’s flagship events, including the General Assembly, Media Summits, Forums, and Awards Ceremonies.
Prepare event reports, background notes, and promotional content for stakeholders.
Contribute to public relations activities and outreach campaigns promoting ABU’s mission and achievements.
Mandatory
Master’s degree (preferred) or Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication, Journalism, Media Studies, International Relations, or a related field.
Minimum 7–10 years of experience in journalism, broadcasting, publications, or mass communication/strategic communication at regional or international level.
Proven record in managing editorial projects and media campaigns.
Excellent command of English writing and editing; proficiency in another Asia-Pacific language is an advantage.
Strong understanding of broadcasting, media development, and digital communication trends.
Experience collaborating with international organisations or UN agencies is desirable.
The Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) is an international professional association of broadcasting organisations with around 260 members located in 70 countries. It services these members from the ABU Secretariat, which is based in RTM’s Angkasapuri compound in Kuala Lumpur. The Secretariat employs some 40 staff led by senior experts in the technical, programming, news, sports and development projects fields.
