Job summary

Overview

The Senior Electrical Engineer is responsible for the daily Electrical maintenance activities at the Power Station, including the identification of maintenance requirements and their integration into a long term plan. The Senior Electrical Engineer is the person in-charged for the preparation and execution of all Electrical work carried out during planned and unplanned outages of major equipment. Manage the daily EC&I maintenance of the Power Station so that all requirements are identified, documented, planned, scheduled and carried out correctly, and that a history of details of work carried out is available in the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Support of Head of EC&I Maintenance to ensure proper and effective maintenance of the Power Station, commercial aspects and in accordance with safety, environmental and legal regulations.
  • Maintain a high safety conscious working environment and ensure comply with all company and legislative Safety, Health & Environmental (SHE).
  • The jobholder is to use his or her enhanced knowledge, skill and experience to conduct, supervision and coach the EC&I Team members.
  • Ensure that identification of maintenance requirements has considered the need to achieve the required plant availability, reliability and performance at the lowest cost to KLPP and the customer, including negotiation with suppliers for better pricing on services.
  • Support the 275kV Competent Electrical Engineer on site, to plan, co-ordinate and execute inspections and calibration of equipment (protection relays, metering equipment, etc.) according to legal requirements or as determined by the contract.
  • Preparation of new Work Instructions (WI) or review of existing WI’s as required or identified from time to time.
  • Reporting according to procedures and requirements.
  • Identification of training requirements and development of subordinates and to conduct internal trainings to subordinates and operations staff.
  • Review of the spares and tools holding.
  • Assist in the assessment & review of external contractors or suppliers where necessary.
  • Preparation of Technical specifications for and review of tenders where necessary.
  • Comply with all applicable SHEQ legal requirements and our stakeholders’ specifications by establishing policies, programmes and practices in order to conduct operations in a healthy, safe and environmentally sound manner with safety first, quality foremost & pursuing excellence.
  • To perform other additional tasks that are relevant and necessary to accomplish the company overall objectives, which may be assigned from time to time.
Qualification and Competency (License)
  • a) Bachelor of Electrical Engineering or
  • b) Bachelor of Electrical & Electronic Engineering or
  • c) Bachelor of Electrical Power Engineering
  • Minimum Mandatory Competency (License) required:
  • a) Electrical Competent Engineer (JEK) 33kV
  • Optional requirement or added advantage:
  • a) Infrared Thermography Level 1 (ITL1) b) Authorised Entrant & Standby Person for Confined Space (AESP).
Work Experience
  • Minimum years of working experience related to the work scope:
  • a) 6 years working experience in EC&I Maintenance of Power Stations or large continuous process plants.
  • a) Substantial knowledge of EC&I engineering practices, functions and processes involved in Power Station or large continuous process plants EC&I maintenance.
  • b) A good understanding of Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • c) Moderate knowledge in budgeting and Systems Applications and Products (SAP) system.
Skills and Behaviour Traits
  • Control over the overall Electrical maintenance section.
  • Excellent knowledge of EC&I Engineering practices, functions and processes involved in Power Station EC&I maintenance.
  • Good leadership skills.
  • Good verbal and written English and Bahasa Malaysia.
  • Knowledge of the legislation associated with Power Station EC&I maintenance.

Edra is the second largest independent power producer (IPP) in Malaysia, with a total generating capacity of 5,087 MW and effective capacity of 4,568.3 MW from its 5 power plants, which consist of 3 combined cycle gas turbine plants (one with co-generation facilities), one coal-fired sub-critical thermal power plant and one large scale solar photovoltaic plant.

In Egypt, the Group owns and operates one 682.5 MW gas-fired conventional thermal power.

In Bangladesh, the Group owns and operates two CCGT power plants, with a total generating capacity of 810 MW and effective capacity of 445.5 MW.

The Group has an investment in a 157 MW combined cycle gas-fired baseload power station located in Pakistan. Its effective capacity is 36 MW.

Edra is also part of a consortium that owns and operates the Taweelah B IWPP, the largest independent water and power project in the UAE. The Group has a 10.0% effective interest in the Taweelah B IWPP, which has a total power generation and desalination capacity of 2,000 MW and 160 MIGD.

The Group’s revenues are mainly derived from the available capacity and electrical energy produced by its power plants to the off-taker under their respective Power Purchase Agreements ("PPAs").

Tenaga Nasional Berhad is our sole off-taker in Malaysia, while Egyptian Electricity Holding Company and Bangladesh Power Development Board are our sole off-takers in Egypt and Bangladesh respectively. These off-takers are either government or government-linked entities. Our PPAs in Egypt and Bangladesh are guaranteed by the Central Bank of Egypt and Government of Bangladesh respectively, with the substantial majority of payments either denominated in, or indexed to, the USD.
