Job summary

A multinational corporation in Malaysia is seeking an experienced Legal Counsel to manage legal documentation and provide guidance on regulatory matters. The ideal candidate will have at least 10 years of experience, preferably in a listed company or multinational, and a background in the plantation industry. This role involves advising internal stakeholders, liaising with external solicitors, and leading a legal team, offering a chance to grow within the organization.

Qualifications

• Degree in Law (LLB) and Certificate of Legal Practice (CLP) required.
• Minimum 10 years of experience as a practicing lawyer or in-house legal counsel.
• Experience in plantation industry and financing transactions is an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Draft, review, negotiate and advise on contracts and legal documentation.
• Interpret, analyse, and resolve legal issues.
• Provide legal updates and guidance to stakeholders.
• Liaise with external solicitors as required.
• Build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Coach and motivate the legal team.
• Perform other legal responsibilities as needed.

Job Description

• Draft, review, negotiate and advise on contracts/legal documentations for transactions and operational matters of SD Guthrie group of companies, in particular, downstream operation
• Interpret, analyse, identify, apply and resolve issues arising under the law and regulatory requirements
• Providing updates on laws/regulatory matters that affect SD Guthrie Berhad group of companies, both local and overseas.
• Responsible for providing guidance and legal advice to internal stakeholders of SD Guthrie Berhad group of companies, both local and overseas, as and when the need arises.
• Liaising and coordinating with external solicitors on all matters involving SD Guthrie Berhad group of companies, both local and overseas, as and when required.
• Build and maintain a good business relationship with all the various internal and external stakeholders to safeguard the interest of SD Guthrie group of companies
• Coach and motivate legal team to ensure high performance and delivery
• To perform and carry out any other responsibilities as and when required by the superior on legal matters involving SD Guthrie Berhad group of companies, both local and overseas.

Requirements

• Degree in Law (LLB), Certificate of Legal Practice (CLP)
• At least 10 years of experience as a practicing lawyer and/or in-house legal counsel in a listed company/multi-national corporation
• Experience in plantation industry and financing transactions is an added advantage
