Main Objective

The Survey Technician is responsible for the preparation, testing, maintenance, and operation of survey, acoustic, and subsea positioning equipment both onshore and offshore. Working closely with Survey Engineers and Technical Leads, the Survey Technician ensures that all systems are properly configured, calibrated, and maintained to deliver accurate and reliable survey data. The role also upholds high standards of safety, quality, and 5S housekeeping while contributing to the continuous improvement and technical excellence of NOR Offshore Rental's operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Survey Equipment Preparation and Mobilization
  • Prepare, test, and configure survey, positioning, and subsea equipment prior to mobilization.
  • Assist in the packing, transport and installation of survey systems on vessels and offshore assets.
  • Verify all required documentation, certifications, and calibration records before deployment.
Offshore Survey Operations Support
  • Assist Survey Engineers and Senior Technicians with mobilization, integration, and operation of survey and positioning systems (e.g., USBL, INS, multibeam, GNSS).
  • Operate and monitor survey sensors and logging software under supervision during offshore projects.
  • Accurately collect and record survey data in accordance with project procedures and quality standards.
Equipment Maintenance and Calibration
  • Conduct routine inspection, cleaning, and functional testing of survey and subsea equipment.
  • Support calibration and verification of positioning and depth sensors before and after offshore operations.
  • Report faults, damage, or maintenance needs promptly and assist in troubleshooting technical issues.
Data Management and Reporting
  • Download, organize, and back up acquired survey data for processing and QC.
  • Maintain accurate equipment logs, calibration sheets, and service records.
  • Assist in preparing technical reports, test sheets, and project documentation.
Quality, Safety, and Compliance
  • Follow company QHSE procedures and offshore safety regulations at all times.
  • Ensure proper handling and storage of sensitive electronic and subsea equipment.
  • Maintain work areas and workshops in compliance with 5S standards.
Technical Learning and Continuous Improvement
  • Participate in ongoing training to develop competence in survey systems, acoustic positioning, and data acquisition.
  • Support technical leads in testing and evaluating new survey equipment or software.
  • Contribute ideas for process improvements and efficiency enhancements in equipment preparation and maintenance.
Teamwork and Offshore Readiness
  • Work collaboratively with survey engineers, vessel crews, and project teams to achieve operational goals.
  • Be prepared for offshore rotation duties, including travel and extended assignments as required.
Objectives and Expected Results

  • Ensure survey data acquisition meets project accuracy, quality, and reporting requirements.
  • Adhere to company QHSE procedures and 5S standards, ensuring a safe working environment both onshore and offshore.
  • Continuously improve technical knowledge and offshore readiness to progress toward higher survey or engineering roles.
Competence Requirements
