Job summary

A renewable energy firm based in Malaysia is seeking an experienced Investment Associate to manage renewable energy investments, including solar and wind projects. The role demands strong financial modeling skills and over five years of relevant experience in investment banking or corporate finance. The successful candidate will be responsible for deal structuring, due diligence, and maintaining investment models. Job description

The Investment Associate plays a critical senior role in origination, evaluation, execution and management of renewable energy investments across solar, battery storage (BESS), wind energy. The role involves mostly financial modeling, due diligence, and deal structuring. The Investment Associate is part of the Investment and Asset Management team and reports to the Chief Investment Officer.

Investment in solar, both utility-scale and rooftop, is expected to reach $450 billion in 2025, making it the single largest item in the global energy investment inventory." - International Energy Agency (IEA)

Help us to be the bridge between green capital and renewable energy projects. It is our job to allocate and distribute the capital in the most efficient and impactful way, and therefore help the transition to clean and low-carbon energy in Southeast Asia.

Key Responsibilities
  • Understand, develop and maintain financial models for project-level and platform-level investments (cash flow, financing, IRR, NPV, sensitivities, etc)
  • Conduct company/asset valuation analysis for operating assets (brownfield), greenfield projects, and strategic or opportunistic M&A opportunities
  • Structure and negotiate deals and draft term sheets and transaction documents
  • Origination:
  • Source and identify new investment opportunities through your own network, conferences and co-investors
  • Perform full desktop and onsite due diligence including financial, legal and technical
  • Interface with external consultants/advisors and internal technical teams
  • Identify key risks and mitigation strategies
  • Draft due diligence outcome report and present to IC
Requirements
Education & Work Experience
  • Must have Bachelor degree (BA) in finance, accounting, economics or related
  • MBA or CFA is a plus
  • Over 5 years relevant work experience, such as in investment banking, private equity, or corporate finance ideally with focus on energy or infrastructure industries
  • Job "hoppers" are not preferred
  • Living in Malaysia
Skills & Experience
  • Strong financial modeling and valuation skills (Excel proficiency required)
  • Lead or actively contributed in multiple investment or M&A transactions before
  • Experience in renewable energy assets/projects
  • Understanding of structuring acquisitions, investments or joint ventures and being able to convert a structured transaction into financial model and legal term sheets
  • Able to build own network and/or use referrals to asset owners, brokers/agents or partners
  • Clear and concise presentation of complex information to clients and stakeholders.
  • Detail-oriented, analytical, proactive and independent
Nice-to-Have
  • Experience with or knowledge of regulatory solar or wind programs and regulatory frameworks in Southeast Asia (e.g. LSS, CRESS, DPPA, GEAP)
  • Experience with or knowledge of PPAs and similar energy contracts
