About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and grounded HR Director to lead the Human Resources function across the organisation. Reporting directly to the CEO, this role plays a critical part in shaping the company’s people strategy and ensuring HR practices effectively support business objectives across both manufacturing and retail operations.
This is a senior leadership role that requires a balance of strategic oversight and hands-on involvement, suited to someone who can operate confidently within a close-knit, owner-led organisation. The successful candidate will bring sound judgment, discretion, and the ability to partner closely with senior management while maintaining operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the overall Human Resources function across the group
- Partner with the CEO and senior management to align HR strategies with business goals
- Support manpower planning, workforce optimisation, and productivity improvement initiatives
- Work with management on manpower versus revenue planning and workforce forecasting
- Advise on organisational structure, role clarity, succession planning, and reporting lines
Talent, Capability & Development
- Oversee end-to-end recruitment, onboarding, and retention strategies
- Drive learning and development initiatives across operational, supervisory, and management levels
- Support leadership and supervisory capability development
- Promote a culture of accountability, consistency, collaboration, and continuous improvement
- Ensure performance management processes are effective, fair, and aligned with business outcomes
Employee Relations & HR Governance
- Provide professional, fair, and consistent guidance on employee relations matters
- Support management in handling sensitive people issues with sound judgment and discretion
- Ensure consistent application of HR policies, procedures, and employment practices
- Maintain full compliance with Malaysian employment laws and regulations
- Manage disciplinary, grievance, and conflict resolution processes where required
HR Operations & Policies
- Oversee HR operations including payroll, benefits administration, performance management, and HR systems
- Review, develop, and update HR policies in line with business needs and regulatory changes
- Analyse HR metrics and workforce data to identify trends, risks, and improvement opportunities
- Stay informed on economic conditions, labour market trends, and policy developments affecting workforce planning
- Ensure HR systems, processes, and practices are practical, scalable, and fit for purpose
People Leadership
- Lead, coach, and mentor the HR team, developing their professional capabilities and effectiveness
- Foster a service-oriented HR function that supports managers and employees across the organisation
Requirements
- Minimum 15 years of progressive HR experience, preferably in a senior leadership role
- Prior experience within manufacturing, industrial, SME, or owner-led organisations is highly preferred
- Strong hands-on experience across end-to-end HR functions, not limited to a single discipline
- In-depth knowledge of Malaysian employment laws and HR best practices
- Strong strategic thinking combined with a practical, solutions-oriented mindset
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and influencing skills
- Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic, and closely managed environment
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or a related field
- Proficiency in English and Bahasa Malaysia
