Job summary

A dynamic startup in Malaysia is seeking a hands-on HR Manager to build HR foundations from scratch. In this role, you will design HR processes, establish policies, and implement structures to support rapid team growth. You will lead recruitment, onboarding, and performance evaluation, while ensuring compliance with local guidelines. Ideal candidates will have at least one year of HR experience, strong leadership skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Fluency in Chinese is required for internal coordination.

Salary Range: RM5,000 – RM7,000

About the Role

We are an early‑stage startup looking for a hands‑on HR Manager who can build our HR foundation from 0 to 1. You will be responsible for designing HR processes, establishing company policies, and implementing recruitment, onboarding and performance structures that support rapid team growth.

This role works closely with departments where the majority of team members are female; therefore, candidates comfortable with such team dynamics will be preferred.

Key Responsibilities
  • Build the entire HR framework from scratch, including HR policies, SOPs and internal workflows.
  • Lead end‑to‑end recruitment: job design, sourcing, screening, interviews and hiring decisions.
  • Establish onboarding processes and employee lifecycle management.
  • Set up performance evaluation systems, attendance structures and HR documentation standards.
  • Handle payroll coordination and statutory requirement communication.
  • Act as the main point of contact for employee relations, conflict resolution and internal communication.
  • Support management with workforce planning and organizational development.
  • Ensure compliance with local employment guidelines and company policies.
  • Execute additional tasks assigned by management when needed.
Requirements
  • At least 1 year of HR experience, including proven experience setting up HR systems from 0 to 1.
  • Strong understanding of HR operations, compliance, recruitment and talent management.
  • Ability to communicate in Chinese (required for internal coordination).
  • Strong leadership, decision‑making and problem‑solving skills.
  • Comfortable working in an early‑stage, fast‑paced startup environment.
  • Preferably in the early career stage (approx. 21–35) for team structure balance.
  • Independent, proactive and able to build systems without supervision.
