Job summary

A leading renewable energy organization in Malaysia is seeking a strategic leader to oversee the Bioenergy Hub. The ideal candidate will drive the vision for a 12 MW bioenergy power plant, ensuring optimal operations across biomass handling and conversion systems. With 15 years of relevant experience and strong project management skills, the successful applicant will lead future projects, engage stakeholders, and develop a high-performing team to fulfill compliance and safety standards.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 15 years of experience in bioenergy and biogas operations, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven track record in project development and stakeholder management.
  • Strong understanding of biomass technologies and energy markets.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the vision and roadmap for the Bioenergy Hub aligning with corporate goals.
  • Lead operations of the bioenergy power plant and Biomethane Plants.
  • Identify and implement bioenergy solutions, including commercialization and grid integration.
  • Collaborate with teams and partners to secure approvals and funding.
  • Build and mentor a high-performing team to support operations.
  • Ensure all activities meet regulatory and safety standards.

Job description
Qualification Requirement
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Engineering, Renewable Energy, Environmental Science, or related field. Having an MBA would be an added advantage.
  • Certifications in project management, energy systems, or sustainability are an advantage.
  • Obtained 1st Grade Steam Engineer Certificate from Department of Safety and Health.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in bioenergy and biogas, renewable energy, or biomass powerplant operations, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven track record in project development, stakeholder management, team leadership and financial modelling. Experiences also in TNB grid connection and requirement.
  • Strong understanding of biomass technologies, energy markets, and sustainability frameworks.
  • Biomass Fuel Handling: Knowledge of different biomass sources, their properties, and handling methods.
  • Combustion Efficiency: Understanding of factors affecting combustion efficiency and methods for optimization.
  • Power Generation Technology: Familiarity with different power generation technologies used in biomass power plants (e.g., steam-turbines).
  • Data Analysis: Ability to analyze data from plant monitoring systems and identify trends.
  • Risk Management: Understanding of potential risks in biomass power plant operations and how to mitigate them.
  • ▪ant Operations: Understanding of biomass fuel handling, combustion processes, and power generation systems (boilers, turbines, generators).
  • Instrumentation and Control: Familiarity with plant automation systems, sensors, and control algorithms.
  • Troubleshooting and Maintenance: Ability to diagnose and resolve issues with plant equipment and systems.
Job Description
  • Strategic Leadership: Drive the vision and roadmap for JPG’s Bioenergy Hub, aligning with corporate sustainability and monetization goals.
  • Project Oversight: Lead the operations of the 12 MW bioenergy power plant and 600,000 MMBtu/year Biomethane Plants by ensuring optimal performance across biomass handling, gasification, anaerobic digestion, and combustion systems. The candidate also will be leading future projects of bioenergy power plant.
  • Innovation & Commercialization: Identify and implement scalable bioenergy solutions, including biomethane commercialization, biochar production, and grid integration.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with internal teams, regulators, and external partners to secure approvals, funding, and strategic alliances.
  • Team Development: Build and mentor a high-performing multidisciplinary team to support innovation, operations, and compliance.
  • Compliance & Safety: Ensure all activities meet environmental, safety, and regulatory standards.
