Job description

We are seeking a creative and passionate Fashion Designer to lead the design and development ofmodern Malay wearcollections that blend traditional cultural elements with contemporary fashion trends. The ideal candidate will have a strong eye for detail, excellent knowledge of textile materials, and a solid understanding of the cultural aesthetics of Malay attire such asbaju kurung, baju kebaya, baju Melayu, jubah, kaftanand so on— while being able to modernize and innovate designs for today’s fashion market.

Key Responsibilities:

- Design & Development

  • Conceptualize and develop seasonal collections of modern Malay wear for (women/men/kids/unisex). Create design sketches, mood boards, and technical drawings aligned with brand identity and market trends.
  • Modernize traditional silhouettes, fabrics, and patterns for contemporary appeal.
  • Collaborate with the fabric sourcing team to select appropriate materials.
  • Develop and maintain tech packs for production and sampling.
  • Familiarity with sustainable and ethical fashion practices.

- Trend Research & Innovation

  • Conduct ongoing research on global fashion trends, textile innovations, and cultural influences.
  • Stay updated on regional and international fashion weeks, especially those focused on modest fashion and traditional wear.
  • Innovate with design elements while maintaining cultural respect and relevance.
  • Oversee the creation of prototypes and samples.
  • Attend fittings and work closely with pattern makers and tailors to perfect garments.
  • Make necessary revisions to patterns and samples based on feedback.
  • Work with the marketing and merchandising teams to ensure design alignment with sales goals. Collaborate with photographers and stylists for fashion shoots and campaign visuals.
  • Liaise with production teams to ensure timely delivery and quality control.

- Quality Assurance & Brand Consistency

  • Ensure that all designs reflect the brand’s aesthetic and quality standards.
  • Conduct quality checks during the sampling and final production stages.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Degree or Diploma in Fashion Design or related field.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in fashion design, preferably in ethnic/modest in Malay modern wear. Strong portfolio showcasing modern interpretations of traditional attire.
  • Proficient in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and fashion design software.
