JOB PURPOSE
- Responsible for delivering strategic legal support across the Group’s business operations, corporate transactions, and regulatory compliance. This role ensures that all legal matters are managed effectively to protect the Group’s interests, mitigate risks, and support its ambition to be a leading marine and heavy engineering organization of choice.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct legal research and provide timely analysis on issues impacting the Group’s operations to ensure minimal risk to the Company.
- Provide legal input on deal structuring and transaction execution to ensure alignment with regulatory and commercial objectives.
- Administer legal developments, case law, and regulatory changes to support informed decision-making.
- Advise management and stakeholders on legal implications of business strategies, operational matters, and emerging risks to ensure alignment with the laws.
- Draft, review, and negotiate diverse contractual documents including tenders, bids, sponsorships, bonds, employment agreements, and service contracts by applying legal expertise and commercial acumen to ensure alignment with the Group’s risk appetite and strategic objectives.
- Support all service divisions by providing operational legal guidance on contracts and transactions, to enable smooth execution and mitigate potential disputes.
- Advise on new business ventures, both local and international, including MOUs, MOAs, acquisitions, and partnerships by analyzing legal frameworks and commercial implications, to facilitate informed decision-making and strategic growth.
- Advise on legal implications of claims and disputes by analyzing case facts and legal frameworks, to develop effective resolution strategies and protect the Group’s interests.
- Coordinate external legal counsel in litigation, arbitration, and other proceedings through structured oversight and communication, to ensure alignment with the Group’s legal strategy and cost efficiency.
- Streamline strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders including regulators, vendors, and subsidiaries through proactive engagement and legal support, to ensure alignment with legal standards and business objectives.
- Collaborate with operations, project management, procurement, and other service department to ensure legal alignment in decision making.
- Identify legal risks in operational processes and recommend controls to minimize exposure.
- Support internal audits and investigations related to operational compliance and integrity.
- Maintain accurate records of operational contracts, legal opinions, and compliance documents to enable good system tracking.
- Conduct legal briefings and training sessions for operational teams on contract terms, regulatory updates, and risk awareness.
- Promote a culture of legal compliance and ethical conduct within operational units.
REQUIREMENT
- LLB (Hons) or equivalent legal qualification
- Admitted to the Malaysia Bar (or equivalent jurisdiction).
- Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in legal practice or in-house legal role within the oil & gas or marine sector.
- Experience in EPCIC, fabrication or shipyard-related legal work is highly desirable.
