The Director of Finance is an integral part of the hotel leadership team, providing support and technical expertise to the hotel team and ensuring all accounting and financial requirements are met in a controlled environment. The role supports the General Manager and hotel team to maximise value and strengthen the Finance function.
What are we looking for? The Director of Finance reports to the General Manager and Regional Finance Director and is responsible for financial leadership, control, reporting and business partnering within the hotel.
Responsibilities
- Financial Accounting & Control: lead best practice financial accounting processes within a robust control environment.
- Manage accounting records and financial reports to ensure compliance with company, owner, statutory and fiscal requirements and timetables; include accounts for Hilton International’s branch or subsidiary where applicable.
- Ensure the balance sheet fairly reflects assets and liabilities; maintain regular reviews and reconciliations of all accounts.
- Ensure compliance with management and owner/lease agreements; maintain internal controls over assets, liabilities, revenue and costs in line with company policy.
- Safeguard and oversee hotel assets, liabilities, income and expenditure on behalf of Operator and Owner; provide leadership for financial performance.
- Ensure legal and tax compliance, appropriate insurance, pension management where applicable, and adequate accounting, actuarial and legal controls.
- Obtain valid permits and licenses for matters such as importation, currency transfers and hotel operations (bars, clubs, casinos, etc.).
- Maintain leases and contracts affecting financial status; coordinate with Internal and External Audit and implement in-hotel audit processes.
- Emphasise revenue capture with monthly control checklists and interim self-audits as required.
- Develop best practice financial accounting and control procedures to maximise impact and efficiency.
- Management Reporting: provide focused, innovative and balanced reporting that stimulates management action.
- Develop high-quality management information and performance measurement that is timely, accurate and action-oriented; benchmark and utilise key performance indicators and the balanced scorecard.
- Ensure timely, accurate corporate reporting; reconcile management reports, trends, P&L, balance sheets and cash flow to trial balance with documented reconciliations.
- Business Support: deliver high standards of financial and commercial support to the business.
- Provide financial and commercial advice to the General Manager and hotel team, interpreting financial data and proposing value-added initiatives.
- Support business development initiatives, major pricing decisions and other commercial decisions.
- Information Technology & Systems: optimise IT usage in the finance department to improve efficiency and information quality.
- Support financial system implementation with Project Managers; ensure proper system security, backup procedures and data integrity.
- Act as guardian of data integrity in accounting interfaces; drive error reduction at the source and continuous improvement of processes.
- Investment & Capital Management: optimise returns on capital investments and manage the annual capital plan.
- Prepare and review the AFE; obtain necessary authorisations; perform post-investment audits and ensure compliance with capital policy.
- Contribute to financials for new developments and acquisitions where applicable.
- Looking Ahead: strategic planning, budgeting and forecasting.
- Support the General Manager in hotel strategic planning and master-planning; manage budgeting and regular forecasting with timely alerts on trends.
- Ensure consistency and accuracy of communications regarding future trends; avoid surprises.
- Investment in People: recruit, develop and retain the best talent in the Finance function.
- Establish strong employee relations; optimise department efficiency and staffing levels; develop the Finance team and provide regular feedback and appraisals.
- Provide training to enhance financial skills across the Management Team using Hilton resources.
- Cash & Working Capital: optimise cash flow and maintain strong controls over liquidity.
- Minimise working capital, maximise interest earnings, and maintain accurate cash flow forecasts; ensure timely bank reconciliations and robust credit controls.
- Cost Management: drive cost efficiency and effective purchasing practices; benchmark costs and manage financial risks.
Qualifications
- University qualification and above; Finance / Accounting major and certified (e.g., ACCA/ CPA).
- 5 years in hotel accounting with at least 2 years in a similar role with an international hotel.
- Fluent in written and spoken English.
- System skills: OnQ, Check SCM, SUN, OPERA/OnQPMS, MICROS, HRLINK.
- Proficient in Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
