We are looking for a Customisation Design Engineer to join our team to support different scales of customization, relocation and industrialisation projects. Translating customer needs into engineering characteristics and into unique products. Combines design optimisation, with value‑driven design to support and automate configuration of customised products. It is crucial to ensure all projects are delivered on time.

Reporting directly to the Team Leader, you will work closely with cross‑functional stakeholders across the company, actively participate in all phases of the project, including requirement definition, design, development, research, fabrication, testing/integration, customer interface, maintenance, safety and economic utilisation in the manufacture of VAT products.

The role requires a strong mechanical engineering background with solid proficiency in computer‑aided design (CAD), technical drawing and drafting standards, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T). The incumbent must possess excellent communication skills, the ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and the capability to collaborate effectively within diverse, cross‑functional teams.

Leveraging deep mechanical expertise, the role focuses on driving continuous improvement in product quality, cost efficiency and technological capability, while developing innovative solutions that advance VAT’s engineering excellence. Success in this position depends on effective collaboration across internal and external stakeholders, as well as demonstrating ownership, accountability and commitment to the assigned product series and day‐to‑day business operations.

Responsibilitys include, but are not limited to:

  • Good product knowledge including design, machining, assembly and surrounding processes.
  • Perform design tasks in relocation and customisation projects by turning customer‑specific requests into deliverables.
  • Managing engineering drawings and performing product improvement from time to time.
  • Handle special projects in designing and preparing production drawings for fabrication houses, and work closely with the production team to ensure product processes.
  • Design test equipment to qualify the product in end‑of‑line tests.
  • Be in charge of engineering product documentation and liaise with the engineering change department for ECR/ECN implementation at production floor, keeping the product up to date.
  • Support the Product & Quality team in root‑cause analysis, providing technical advice.
  • Industrialise new standard and customer‑specific products in close cooperation with industrialisation project managers, HQ‑design engineers and product engineers.
  • Involve in product optimisation via collaboration with HQ‑design engineers.
  • Render technical support to NPI products until handoff to operations.
  • Provide technical support in cost‑improvement projects.
  • Support customers together with product management and application engineers.
  • Support the Global Service Engineering team in creating spare‑part/service kit.
  • Perform design review and Design for Manufacturing & Assembly (DFMA) at the cross‑departmental level.
  • Participate in PFMEA, DFMEA and design walkthroughs.
  • 70% design‑related task with 30% engineering coordination task.
  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Sense of responsibility.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Team player, ability to collaborate professionally in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Good communication skills, with good English proficiency.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Skill in 3D‑CAD.
  • Good understanding of GD&T and its application.
  • Proactive, agile, creative, self‑motivated.

Preferred Qualification

  • Experienced with CAD software – Siemens NX.
  • Experienced in change management.
  • Experienced in project management (structured working method).
  • Knowledge of vacuum‑industry technology.
  • Experienced in design and application of mechatronic components (motor, sensor, heater, etc.).
  • Experience in production of cast parts, sheet‑metal parts, injection‑moulding parts.
