Job summary

A logistics and customs firm in Malaysia is seeking an experienced professional to manage customs clearance and international logistics. Responsibilities include regulatory management, air and sea freight logistics, and documentation flow. The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 3 years in customs operations, comprehensive knowledge of trade regulations, and strong negotiation skills. Knowledge of Mandarin is an added advantage. Job description
Key Responsibilities
1. Customs Clearance & Compliance (Primary Function)
  • Regulatory Management: Ensure strict adherence to all import/export regulations, tariffs, and trade compliance laws across all modes of transport (Air and Sea).

  • Documentation: Prepare, review, and accurately submit all required customs documentation (Commercial Invoices, Packing Lists, Air Waybills, Bills of Lading, etc.) for time‑sensitive clearances.

  • HS Classification: Accurately determine and manage Harmonized System (HS) Codes and tariff classifications to ensure correct duty assessment and minimize clearance delays.

  • Audits & Record Keeping: Maintain meticulous records for all customs entries and logistics activities, serving as the lead contact during customs inquiries or audits.

  • Duty Optimization: Manage and track import duties, taxes, and fees, actively seeking opportunities for duty reduction through applicable Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) or special programs.

2. Air Freight Logistics Management
  • Shipment Coordination: Manage time‑critical Air Freight shipments, including booking, coordinating pick‑ups with origins, and monitoring transit for both import and export.

  • Carrier Selection: Liaise with air carriers and freight forwarders to negotiate spot rates, optimize transit routes, and ensure service level agreements are met.

  • Express Handling: Oversee handling procedures for urgent, high‑value, or temperature‑sensitive air cargo.

3. Sea Freight Logistics Management
  • LCL/FCL Planning: Oversee the planning and execution of both Less‑than‑Container Load (LCL) and Full Container Load (FCL) sea freight shipments.

  • Booking & Tracking: Manage vessel bookings, ensure timely cut‑off adherence, and provide regular, accurate updates on sea shipment milestones.

  • Documentation Flow: Process and verify ocean freight specific documentation, including Original Bills of Lading (OBL) and Telex Releases.

4. Bonded Warehouse & Inventory Coordination (Added Advantage)
  • Bonded Operations: Coordinate the proper movement and management of goods within a bonded warehouse environment, ensuring all customs reporting and procedural requirements are rigorously followed.

  • Internal Liaison: Work closely with the internal Warehouse and Inventory teams to reconcile physical stock against inbound/outbound logistics data and customs status.

Requirements
  • Minimum of 3 years of demonstrable experience in customs clearance and international logistics management.

  • Proven, hands‑on experience managing both Air and Sea freight operations for both import and export.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of global trade regulations, Incoterms 2020, and customs procedures.

  • Exceptional organizational skills, a proactive problem‑solving mindset, and the ability to manage multiple time‑sensitive shipments concurrently.

  • Able to converse in Mandarin will be added advantage.

  • Specific, verifiable experience managing logistics or documentation relating to a Customs Bonded Warehouse.

  • Possession of a recognized Customs Broker License or Certification (e.g., [Mention local certification]).
