Job Description
Responsibilities:
1. Decontamination & Cleaning
- Perform proper decontamination, cleaning, and disinfection of surgical instruments and medical equipment.
- Operate washer-disinfectors, ultrasonic cleaners, and manual cleaning processes according to protocol.
- Segregate contaminated, clean, and sterile items to prevent cross-contamination.
2. Inspection, Assembly & Packaging
- Inspect instruments for cleanliness, function, damage, or wear.
- Assemble surgical instrument sets according to standard trays and surgeon preferences.
- Package and label instruments correctly prior to sterilization.
3. Sterilization Process
- Operate sterilization equipment (e.g. steam autoclave, low-temperature sterilizers).
- Load, run, and unload sterilizers following validated cycles and safety procedures.
- Monitor sterilization parameters and ensure compliance with infection control standards.
4. Storage & Distribution
- Store sterile supplies in accordance with recommended conditions.
- Issue sterile instruments and consumables to Operating Theatre and other clinical areas.
- Ensure timely availability of instruments for scheduled and emergency surgeries.
5. Infection Control & Safety
- Comply with hospital infection prevention and control policies.
- Adhere to occupational safety guidelines, including use of PPE.
- Participate in audits and quality improvement initiatives.
Minimum Requirements
1. Education & Certification
- Minimum SPM level and above.
- Certificate or Diploma in CSSD / Sterile Processing / Healthcare Support is an advantage.
2. Experience
- Minimum 1 year of experience in CSSD, Operating Theatre, or hospital support services preferred.
3. Technical Knowledge & Skills
- Basic knowledge of:
- Infection control principles
- Sterilization methods and workflows
- Handling of surgical instruments
- Ability to operate sterilization and cleaning equipment.
