Job summary

A leading trade and infrastructure company in Malaysia is seeking a Contract Manager to oversee contractual correspondence and compliance. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in law, Quantity Surveying, or Engineering, with 12-15 years of experience in contract management. Strong knowledge of contract law and excellent drafting skills are essential. This role involves liaising with stakeholders, managing disputes, and leading a team to ensure all contractual obligations are met.

Qualifications

Job description
Responsibilities

Oversee all contractual correspondence with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers, ensuring timely, accurate, and professional responses.

Draft, review, and finalize letters, notices, claims, and other contractual documents.

Ensure proper documentation, filing, and tracking of all contractual communications.

Monitor compliance with contractual obligations and advise management on potential risks and exposures.

Support project teams in interpreting contract terms and conditions, identifying entitlements, and ensuring compliance.

Act as the primary point of contact for contractual matters with major subcontractors.

Liaise with internal stakeholders (Legal, Project, Commercial, Procurement, Finance, etc.) to ensure alignment in contractual positions.

Manage disputes, claims, and negotiations in a professional and solution-oriented manner.

Identify potential contractual risks and recommend mitigation measures.

Prepare and review variation claims and extensions of time in accordance with contract provisions.

Provide strategic input and advice to management on complex contract issues.

Lead a small team of contract executives/officers, providing guidance, coaching, and quality assurance on all outgoing correspondence.

Report regularly to the Management and Project Team on contract management status, risks, and issues requiring escalation.

Develop and enforce standard templates and processes for contractual communications.

Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in law, Quantity Surveying, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 12–15 years of experience in contract management, preferably in railways, infrastructure, or engineering industries.
  • Strong knowledge of contract law, commercial terms, and conditions (FIDIC, EPC contracts, etc.).
  • Experience in preparation and review of extension of time claims and prolongation claims preferred.
  • Experience in railway systems preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in handling contractual matters with international companies.
  • Excellent drafting and writing skills for formal letters, claims, and contractual notices.
  • Strong negotiation, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and document management systems.
