Job summary

A leading engineering firm in Kulim, Malaysia is seeking an experienced CNC Turning Technician to take full responsibility for setting up and operating CNC Turning machines. The ideal candidate will have a diploma in Mechanical or related fields and a minimum of 2 years of experience in CNC programming. Responsibilities include quality control, tool management, and continuous improvement within ISO standards. This position offers an opportunity to work independently within a dynamic team environment.

Qualifications

  • Familiarity with precision measuring instruments.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate CNC Turning machines for production runs.
  • Ensure machines are properly calibrated and ready for production.
  • Perform IPQC on parts using precision measuring instruments.
  • Monitor and maintain production schedules to meet project deadlines.

Job description
Responsibilities

Prepare the program and setup sheet for the CNC Turning.

Ensure proper instructions for tools and workpiece setup and holding securely, including correct cutting tools use and preparation.

Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to determine machining operations.

Machine Setup, Operation & Tooling Management

Take full responsibility for setting up, operating, and running CNC Turning machines from setup through to production run.

Ensure machines are properly prepared, calibrated, and ready for production, including correct offsets, zero setting, and first-off approval.

Manage, prepare, and maintain all cutting tools, inserts, holders, and fixtures used in CNC turning operations.

Monitor tool life, replace worn tools in a timely manner, and optimize tooling usage to minimize downtime and scrap.

Perform routine machine checks, basic maintenance, and housekeeping to ensure machines are kept in good working condition.

Troubleshoot machine, tooling, or process-related issues during production and take corrective action promptly.

Ensure machines are operated safely and in compliance with company procedures, ISO requirements, and safety standards.

Quality Control

Perform IPQC on parts and components using precision measuring instruments to ensure they meet quality standards and specifications.

Make necessary adjustments to maintain the quality of work and accuracy of machined parts.

Production Management

Evaluate the machining process and reduce cycle time while keeping product quality at its best.

Identify possible improvements in production such as work holding, tool management, and collaborate with the team to resolve problems.

Monitor and maintain production schedules to ensure timely completion of tasks and projects.

A proactive approach to continuous improvement and compliance with the ISO quality management system.

Qualifications and Skills
Education
  • Diploma or higher in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Precision Machining.
  • Technical certification or vocational training in CNC machining or a related field.
Experience
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in CNC Turning programming and setting.
Technical Skills
  • Capable of doing programming and setting independently, accurately and confidently. Able to program with MasterCAM is an advantage.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Strong understanding of machining processes, materials, and tools.
  • Experience with precision measuring instruments such as callipers, micrometres, and gauges.
  • Familiarity with Fanuc controllers for CNC machine operation.
  • Good understanding of Geometric Dimensions & Tolerances (GD&T) application.
Soft Skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Positive attitude and responsible character.
  • Ability to arrive on time and manage time effectively to meet production deadlines.
