British American Tobacco Malaysia has an exciting opportunity for a Business Controls Manager in Sunway City, Selangor.

Responsible for driving the implementation of data analytics and automation strategies to enhance internal controls assurance and advisory activities. This role uses advanced analytics and automation techniques to assess, report, and strengthen internal control processes using structured tools. It also guides automated controls assessment to promote risk management awareness and standard methodologies across the BAT Group.

Your key responsibilities will include:
Data Analytics & Automation
  • Support the delivery of internal controls related data analytics strategy and automated controls assessment approach.
  • Conceptualise and delivery of data analytics and automation solutions across the core BAT processes to support the BAT internal controls framework.
  • Analyse datasets to support controls assurance and internal controls monitoring, ensuring accurate and complete reporting (including SOx testing).
  • Ensuring all data analytics & automation supporting controls assurance work, e.g. management’s SOx testing, is fully documented in line with the BCT Methodology and in line with external Auditing Standards to enable reliance from Internal and External Audit.
  • Recommend process improvements to address control gaps and strengthen risk management practices.
  • Capability to identify opportunities for automation and generative AI adoption to strengthen compliance and reduce manual effort
Business Partnering
  • Build and maintain good working relationships with management (e.g. D&A team, D&A platform teams), ensuring timely resolution of issues and regular progress updates.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to design and implement data analytics and automation solutions that enhance control effectiveness and compliance.
  • Coordinate or participate the delivery of training to BCT staff on data analysis and automated controls assessment to support the global delivery BCT workplan.
  • Communicate analytics results and automated insights to stakeholders promptly and clearly.
What are we looking for?
  • Degree educated with relevant professional Internal Controls and data analytics qualification (e.g., Certified Analytics Professional (CAP), ACA, ACCA or equivalent, CISA, ITIL, CGEIT or CISSP).
  • 5+ years data analytics and automation experience with significant accounting firm or corporate industry.
  • Hands‑on experience with SQL, Python, and Alteryx for advanced data analysis, workflow automation, and reporting.
  • Experience with data management concepts and tools, e.g. data mining/or process mining, including working with large datasets and automation of controls.
  • SAP automated controls experience:
    • Experience (FI/CO/MM/SD/FSCM), focusing on either the configuration or understanding of table structures and data model relationships.
    • Hands on SAP application reporting and query experience in order to extract internal controls relevant data and information.
  • Ability to convert analytic finding into non-technical business scenarios and risks for senior management to enable understanding of risks and impact of controls over those risks and processes.
  • Good knowledge of internal controls practices, principles and procedures and corporate governance requirements for a global Group, including Internal Controls over Financial Reporting (ICoFR).
  • Experience of one or more of BAT’s core business functions, including operations, marketing, finance and IT.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to articulate control issues from analytic finding, risk, impact and recommendations to management.
  • Organ structured day to day working style with the ability to effectively multi-task.
  • Work with other BAT departments to leverage resources on data and systems, e.g Data and Analytics team, Automation team, IT teams, etc.
  • Align BCT activities with the review activities of other BAT departments, e.g. other Line of Defence Teams including Compliance, EH&S, Global Security, DBS Risk & Controls, IT Security, and Internal Audit.
  • Promotes an awareness of risk management and control practices and builds effective working relationships.
  • Provides advice, guidance and feedback in the areas of risk management and internal controls.
  • External Auditors – Respond to queries and requests for information and support the external audit activity.
  • Third Party Support – Liaison with and management of third-party support staff.
