Scope

As a lecturer for the programme of Bachelor of Biomedical Science and Master of Science in Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) programmes, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of biomedical and OSH professionals. Your responsibilities will encompass teaching, curriculum development and review, research, and strengthening industrial collaboration with industry partners, with the ultimate goal of nurturing industry‑ready graduates.

Your teaching responsibilities will include courses in basic medical sciences (e.g. anatomy, physiology, etc.) research methodology and epidemiology, biostatistics, health management, health communication, as well as OSH‑related courses such as industrial & environmental toxicology, emergency preparedness & crisis management and occupational health & workers' wellbeing.

You shall be a member of the staff of the Department of Biomedical Science, Kulliyyah of Allied Health Sciences, IIUM Kuantan, which currently oversees this programmes. You shall perform teaching, research, examination duties, and such other obligations as are normally required of an academic staff member of the IIUM.

You should also undertake moral and religious obligations in relation to your colleagues and students as part and parcel of your duties as a member of the academic staff of IIUM.

You shall attend meetings of IIUM Authorities, Boards and Committees to which you, being an academic staff member, may be appointed as a member by virtue of the IIUM Constitution or any Statutes or Acts, or of any administrative actions of the Rector, Dean, Head of the Department, or Programme Director.

You are also expected to advise and guide students in relation to their character, behaviour and moral conduct. In short, you are not only a teacher (Mu’allim), a scholar ('Alim) but also a moral educator (Murabbi).

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop, or update, and deliver teaching materials to students using a range of methods and platforms for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
  • Monitor students’ performance and attendance for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
  • Develop, administer, and grade assessments on students for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
  • Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students in clinical attachment, research, community, and/or laboratory activities.
  • Contribute to the development/review, planning, and implementation of curriculum for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
  • Conduct research and produce publications or other research outputs.
  • Apply and secure research funding support.
  • Establish and maintain network/collaboration with other institutions, as well as with industrial, commercial, or public organizations, for research or professional purposes.
  • Attend workshops/seminars/conferences for continuous professional development or improvement.
  • Actively participate in working groups or committees at the department, Kulliyyah, university, national, or international levels.
  • Uphold the university’s philosophy, vision, mission, and educational goals at all times.
Minimum Qualifications

Candidates should have:

  1. Clinical Master or PhD in Public Health/Community Medicine/Occupational Safety and Health (OSH)/Environmental Health or any related field, from any international or local institutions of higher learning recognised by the Government or equivalent.
  2. Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine and Surgery/Medical Doctor from any international or local institutions of higher learning recognised by the Government or equivalent.
  3. Candidates who can teach basic medical sciences (e.g., anatomy, physiology, etc.), research methodology and epidemiology, biostatistics, health management, health communication, as well as OSH‑related courses such as industrial & environmental toxicology, emergency preparedness & crisis management, and occupational health & workers' wellbeing.
Added Advantage
  • Registered Occupational Health Doctor (OHD) certified by the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH), Malaysia.
  • Possession of relevant professional certifications or OSH competencies, such as Chemical Health Risk Assessment (CHRA) Assessor, Certified Environmental Professional in Scheduled Waste Management (CEPSWAM) or any relevant certification.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in teaching and/or working in industries related to OSH or the Environmental Health field.
  • Proven research and publication record in relevant areas of expertise.
Minimum Competencies
  • Chemical Health Risk Assessment (CHRA) or Health Risk Assessment (HRA) or Certified CEPSWAM

Language Qualifications

All candidates must have obtained:

  • Credits in Bahasa Malaysia and English language (including oral examination) at Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) level O or equivalent qualification recognised by the Government (for Malaysian citizens).
  • IELTS Band 6 / MUET Band 4. Candidate without any of these qualifications will be required to sit for the IIUM English Language Proficiency Test.
