GS Paperboard & Packaging Sdn Bhd – Selangor

We are seeking an experienced Assistant Manager, Purchasing to lead and support strategic sourcing, procurement operations, and supplier relationship management within a manufacturing environment. This role requires a Mandarin‑speaking professional who is analytical, commercially driven, and capable of managing suppliers and stakeholders locally and overseas.

Job Responsibilities
Strategic Sourcing
  • Identify, evaluate, and onboard reliable and competitive suppliers to support business needs.

  • Develop and implement sourcing strategies aligned with cost optimization, quality, and supply continuity.

  • Leverage AI tools and data analytics for supplier profiling, comparison, and decision‑making.

Operational Purchasing & Order Management
  • Oversee the full procurement cycle, from purchase requisitions to purchase orders.

  • Monitor inventory levels to ensure optimal stock availability while minimizing overstock risks.

  • Generate and analyze procurement reports, including cost savings, spend analysis, and supplier performance metrics.

  • Manage procurement data within ERP systems (e.g. SAP) and support data integration with AI tools for advanced analysis.

Supplier & Stakeholder Relationship Management
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal stakeholders and external suppliers.

  • Lead negotiations, engagement, and collaboration to ensure delivery, compliance, and alignment with purchasing strategies.

  • Communicate market trends, price fluctuations, and supply risks to stakeholders, recommending cost‑effective solutions without compromising quality or service.

General & Task Management
  • Negotiate contract terms with key suppliers, ensuring value for money, quality standards, and delivery reliability.

  • Develop negotiation strategies and successfully close agreements with optimal commercial terms.

  • Establish and maintain supplier evaluation and performance management frameworks.

  • Continuously seek, assess, and partner with high‑performing vendors and suppliers.

Compliance & Risk Management
  • Ensure full compliance with procurement policies, procedures, and internal controls.

  • Identify and mitigate risks related to supply chain disruptions, pricing volatility, and supplier dependency.

  • Support internal and external audits by preparing documentation and responding to audit requirements.

Job Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Engineering, or a related field.

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant purchasing or procurement experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment (local or overseas exposure).

  • Fluent in Mandarin (spoken and written) to liaison with Mandarin‑speaking suppliers and business partners.

  • Strong negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

  • Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making abilities.

  • High attention to detail, especially in contract management and cost analysis.

  • Proficient in procurement systems and ERP platforms (e.g. SAP).

  • Strong financial acumen with a solid understanding of cost structures and spend optimization.

  • Able to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously in a fast‑paced environment.

  • Willing to work in Banting, Selangor (near KLIA / Sepang).
