The successful candidate will collaborate with the Manager to ensure services meet school policies and regulatory requirements. The Assistant Manager plays a key role in supporting the effective operation, management, and continuous improvement of the department. Working closely with the Manager, the role provides operational oversight, people management support, and professional advice, ensuring that services are delivered efficiently, consistently, and in line with School policies, regulatory requirements, and strategic objectives.
Support the Manager in the day-to-day management of departmental operations, ensuring work is delivered to agreed standards, timelines, and priorities.
Coordinate and monitor workflows, processes, and service delivery, identifying risks, issues, and areas for improvement.
Contribute to the development, implementation, and review of procedures, guidelines, and systems to improve efficiency and consistency.
Act as a point of escalation for operational issues, resolving routine matters independently and referring to more complex issues as appropriate.
Provide line management or supervisory support to designated staff, including allocation of work, guidance, coaching, and performance monitoring.
Support induction, training, and development of staff to ensure competence and compliance with required standards.
Contribute to performance review processes, probation monitoring, and addressing conduct or capability issues in line with School procedures.
Foster a professional, collaborative, and inclusive working environment.
Assist in ensuring compliance with School policies, safeguarding requirements, health and safety standards, and relevant legal or regulatory obligations.
Monitor documentation, records, and reporting requirements, ensuring accuracy, confidentiality, and audit readiness.
Support risk management by identifying operational, compliance, or reputational risks and proposing mitigating actions.
Liaise professionally with internal and external stakeholders, including staff, leaders, contractors, parents, or partners, as appropriate to the role.
Prepare reports, briefings, and updates for the Manager, senior leaders, or committees as required.
Represent the department at meetings or forums when delegated by the Manager.
Assist with forecasting, tracking expenditure, and ensuring value for money.
Contribute to projects, change initiatives, and service improvements, including data gathering, analysis, and implementation support.
Use, feedback, and data to inform recommendations and improve service outcomes.
Undertake other reasonable duties commensurate with the level of the role, as directed by the Manager.
Ensure compliance with Health & Safety regulations, reporting any concerns and taking appropriate action to maintain a safe environment.
Demonstrate professionalism, cultural sensitivity, collaboration, and a commitment to continuous development.

Proven experience in a supervisory, coordination, or assistant management role.
A relevant qualification in engineering, technology, or a related technical field (e.g. building services, facilities management, mechanical or electrical engineering, facilities technology, or systems management), or equivalent practical experience.
Strong organisational and planning skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
Ability to apply policies and procedures with sound judgement and discretion.
Effective communication skills in English and BM, both written and verbal.
Experience working collaboratively with a range of stakeholders.
Experience within an education or not-for-profit environment.
Experience supporting change management or service improvement initiatives.
