Job summary

A renewable energy company in Malaysia is seeking a professional to oversee commercial and project teams in managing cost estimation, financial evaluation, and budgeting throughout renewable energy projects. The ideal candidate will possess strong costing, budgeting, and financial analysis skills with a strong background in renewable energy, and must hold a relevant Bachelor's degree. This position requires excellent analytical abilities and stakeholder management skills, while ensuring compliance with contracts and project profitability.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 4–7 years of relevant experience in commercial, costing, or project finance roles.
  • Experience in renewable energy, power generation, infrastructure, or EPC projects is highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with tendering, budgeting, and contract commercial terms.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare project cost estimates, CAPEX/OPEX models, and budgets for renewable energy projects.
  • Support tender pricing, bid costing, and commercial proposals.
  • Monitor and track project costs vs budget, highlighting variances.

Job description

This role will be supporting the commercial and project teams in managing cost estimation, financial evaluation, budgeting, and commercial risk across renewable energy projects. The role ensures projects are commercially viable, competitively priced, and aligned with contractual and regulatory requirements throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities
Commercial & Costing
  • Prepare project cost estimates, CAPEX/OPEX models, and budgets for renewable energy projects (e.g. solar PV, BESS, energy infrastructure).
  • Support tender pricing, bid costing, and commercial proposals, ensuring accuracy and competitiveness.
  • Analyse supplier and subcontractor quotations; conduct cost benchmarking and value engineering.
  • Assist in project financial modelling, sensitivity analysis, and investment evaluation.
  • Monitor and track project costs vs budget, highlighting variances and recommending corrective actions.
Contract & Commercial Management
  • Support review of commercial terms in contracts, EPC agreements, PPAs, and vendor contracts.
  • Assist in managing variation orders, claims, and change control from a commercial perspective.
  • Coordinate with Legal, Procurement, and Project teams on commercial risk identification and mitigation.
Project & Stakeholder Support
  • Work closely with Project Engineers, Business Development, Finance, and Procurement teams.
  • Prepare commercial reports, dashboards, and management presentations.
  • Support negotiations with vendors, contractors, and partners where required.
Governance & Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with internal commercial policies, approval matrices, and audit requirements.
  • Maintain proper documentation for costing assumptions, approvals, and contractual records.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Engineering, Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related fields.
  • Minimum 4–7 years of relevant experience in commercial, costing, or project finance roles.
  • Experience in renewable energy, power generation, infrastructure, or EPC projects is highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with tendering, budgeting, and contract commercial terms.
Skills & Competencies
  • Strong costing, budgeting, and financial analysis skills.
  • Good understanding of project lifecycle and commercial risk management.
  • Proficient in Excel and financial modelling (Power BI is an advantage).
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to work under tight timelines.
Special Attributes (Nice to Have)
  • Exposure to solar PV, BESS, IPP, or utility‑scale projects.
  • Knowledge of PPA structures, EPC contracts, and regulatory frameworks.
