Job description

The Practice Lead is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Health visitor to work in collaboration with the 0-19 leadership team, alongside the Locality Lead and Safeguarding Lead to support the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme within a high quality, efficient and effective service.

The Practice Lead role is varied, offering you the opportunity to further develop your leadership skills. The development and delivery of training packages and supervision provided by the practice lead team supports the current and future workforce (supporting pre registration and SCPHN students) in delivering a high quality service.

The role allows for the successful candidate to influence service delivery to the children/families in our community, maintaining clinical skills through their work in supporting learners and the service.

Through activities such as completing audits and being involved in actions from lessons learnt, the practice leads are key to the service, ensuring that safe, evidenced based, quality care is delivered.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

1. Clinical

1.1 Responsible for the practice placement learning environment for a cohort of Student Specialist Public Health Nurses working within the 0-19 teams.
1.2 To offer guidance and sharing of expert knowledge to improve outcomes for children & young people within Bedfordshire.
1.3 To work with staff, other professionals and relevant partners to ensure delivery and plans of care for the children, young people and their families.
1.4 To engage with all Institutes of Higher Education across Bedfordshire Community Health Services to ensure robust standards of Education and training within Bedfordshire 0-19 services Practice Placements
1.5 To work together with the wider CCS services and stakeholders to ensure that learning and development for students and staff in the 0-19 teams is consistent across the Trust.
1.6 To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of one’s own work including management of clients on caseloads if appropriate and management of time and resources in line with the NMC code of conduct and Trust Policies.
1.7 To plan, deliver and evaluate packages of training and learning opportunities for all staff working within the 0-19 teams, in collaboration with partner agencies, taking into account local and national policies and procedures.
1.8 To provide up to date research evidence-based knowledge to support both pre & post registration students.
1.9 To establish/ maintain and develop effective working relationships with all internal and external stakeholders.
1.10 To plan and enable induction of all new staff members in 0-19 service within the locality area. Working with the team lead to ensure new starter competencies are achieved.
1.11 Foster a culture of Research and Development within the locality and wider CCS community
1.12 Maintain own safeguarding competencies and support staff to safeguard children in line with local policy and procedure.

2 Professional

2.1 To apply analytical skills through application of specialist knowledge in order to support the assessment process and to share findings with students working within the 0-19 integrated team
2.2 Evaluate care as part of ongoing assessment of the quality of service provision through the implementation of audit in all areas of service delivery.
2.3 Participate in any relevant new initiatives from government, research programmes or projects that are locally or nationally driven
2.4 Work collaboratively with the Clinical and Quality Lead and participate in planning, implementing and evaluating training to all staff within the 0-19 teams
2.5 To be a credible role mode, demonstrating good practice and maintaining local, national and professional standards. To develop and implement evidenced based guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures for 0-19 practitioners.
2.6 As agreed with the Service Managers/corporate quality team, regularly engage in clinical audit to inform service performance as well as support service improvement.
2.7 Attend feedback meetings, business meetings and multiagency meetings, ensuring confidentiality but establishing that a seamless, holistic service is offered to all Children & Young People of Bedfordshire.
2.8 Act as a source of expertise and knowledge for children, young people and their families and for health professionals and have a key role in the continuing development of the integrated team around the child
2.9 Participate in developing joint action plans, protocols, pathways, guidelines, procedures and audit to ensure continuous quality improvement of the service
2.10 Develop effective working relationships with appropriate multiagency professionals, Develop and maintain working relationships with children’s agencies both from the statutory and voluntary sectors and those from Institutes of Higher Education
2.11 Work together with the Locality Team Manager and Locality Safeguarding Lead to provide supervision for staff in accordance with Trust policies.
Communication

3.1 Demonstrate the ability to reconcile conflicting interests which may arise
3.2 Influence decisions regarding service delivery through leading meetings
3.3 The post holder will use well developed change management, communication and resilience skills to effect change within the team, understanding the complexities of change whilst also being able to deliver change
3.4 Use sophisticated communication skills to impart difficult or unwelcome news primarily to staff, for example, disciplinary, performance and grievance matters
3.5 To develop and maintain effective working relationships with clinical colleagues within the service, division and Trust
3.6 Develop and maintain positive working relationships with key stakeholders and partners to support integration of services across Bedfordshire
3.7 Ensure clients and their carers/families are aware of the standards they would expect from the service
3.8 Communicate effectively with commissioners
3.9 Analyse and provide reports and decipher information from data and communicate this information to the Clinical Services Manager
People Management

4.1 Maintain own professional development with a requirement to take part in appraisal and
4.2 As part of the locality leadership team, ensure that the recruitment, retention, motivation and development of staff are a key priority.
4.3 Support the Locality Lead to meet the Trust target rate for mandatory and essential to role training compliance in the locality.
Research and Development Activity

5.1 Required to undertake regular R&D activity as appropriate.
Clinical and Practice Governance

6.1 Observe and maintain strict confidentiality with regards to any patient/family/staff/ records and information in line with the requirements of the Data Protection Act.

6.2 Any data that is taken/shared as part of a phone call or transported, faxed or transferred electronically must be undertaken with regard to the Trust Information Governance and Information Security policies.
6.3 The post holder must adhere to the Trust risk assessment and risk management processes.
6.4 The post holder must adhere to infection control policies and procedures.
6.5 It is a condition of your employment that you are currently registered with the NMC and it is your responsibility to maintain your professional registration.
6.6 Undertake mandatory training and any other training relevant to the role as required by Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust.
6.7 The post holder must participate in clinical and safeguarding audits as required.
6.8 Participate in clinical and management supervision on a regular basis.
6.9 The post holder is required to participate in relevant emergency preparedness process
