Job Details

Are you a qualified solicitor, chartered legal executive, barrister (or equivalent) with solid experience in making evidence‑based decisions? We are looking to appoint adjudicators to make regulatory decisions on a broad range of work. This is a full‑time hybrid role.

The role

You must be a solicitor, barrister, chartered legal executive or hold equivalent legal professional status with entitlement to practise in England and Wales. You will also have significant experience in an environment where decision‑making is required.

This role needs someone with a solid grounding of skills, experience and judgement to reach reasoned and accurate decisions quickly. Decisive decisions require detailed analysis of complex, technical, and often large amounts of information and evidence. You must demonstrate sound, objective judgement, strong analytical skills and solid writing abilities.

You will be accountable for making clear, reasoned and proportionate decisions by applying the relevant legal framework, policy and criteria to protect the public interest and mitigate regulatory risk. Decisions include fining individuals or firms, imposing regulatory controls, rebuking, imposing conditions, intervening into firms, considering compensation fund payments and reviewing operational team decisions.

Additionally, you will identify ways to improve decision‑making quality, deliver internal training and contribute to projects as required.

What we are looking for

  • Solicitor, legal executive, barrister or equivalent legal qualification with entitlement to practise in England and Wales.
  • Substantial decision‑making experience and deep regulatory law, capable of taking accountability for important and difficult decisions based on legislation, policy and criteria.
  • Strong analytical, drafting and influencing skills; ability to argue coherently, make findings on disputed facts and assess risk.
  • Track record of leading and delivering solutions, taking accountability for complex issue resolution using judgement.
  • Strong communication skills with experience building relationships and trust with staff and colleagues at all levels, remaining objective.
  • Considers equality and fairness at all times.
  • Resilient and able to work in a constantly changing environment.

Useful and additional Information

We have attached a role profile and a ‘Day in the Life of’ document to help you understand the responsibilities and daily work style of an adjudicator.

This is a hybrid role; we are recruiting for offices in Birmingham, Cardiff and London. You will be based in the office nearest to your location, working 1–2 days a week in the office and the remainder from home.

We welcome applicants seeking work‑life balance. The role is full‑time (35 hours per week).

Salary offers: £63,742 for Birmingham and Cardiff, £70,116 for London. We also provide a generous flexible benefits package, an excellent defined contribution pension scheme and an additional 3% of annual basic salary upon successful completion of probation.

To apply

You must upload a CV and a cover letter. The cover letter should provide clear examples demonstrating how you meet each essential criterion listed above. Specific examples will be used to shortlist applications.

For more information on the recruitment and selection process, please visit our jobs pages.

Closing date for applications is 23:55 on 23 November 2025. We may close the application period earlier if we receive a sufficient number of applications. We encourage early applications if you are interested.

If shortlisted, a technical assessment and interview will take place in the weeks of 1 and/or 8 December 2025.
