The post holder will support the Head of Safeguarding and Vulnerabilities and Lead Nurse in the delivery of safe and effective safeguarding practice across the Trust, that places the wishes of the patient at the centre of decision making at every step. Support all activities necessary to ensure that the organisation meets its statutory and regulatory responsibilities to safeguard protect adults, children and young people. To work under the direction of the Lead Nurse and Head of Service to deliver the safeguarding adults, children and young people Trusts priorities.

Champion trauma-informed, person-centred practice and lead initiatives to reduce health inequalities experienced by children in care, care leavers, exploited young people, and families affected by domestic abuse. Provide operational direction and specialist guidance to colleagues and partner agencies to ensure that health needs are fully identified, assessed, and met, and that inequalities are proactively addressed. Lead on the development, implementation, and monitoring of safeguarding and child exploitation pathways for children, young people, and adults, offering advanced clinical expertise to frontline staff to support robust identification, assessment, and management of risk.

The post holder will provide professional leadership and expert advice to all Trust staff on all aspects of safeguarding. Provide high quality safeguarding training to staff at all levels of the organisation. The post holder will be a visible source of support for frontline clinical staff.

The Post Holder will work alongside the Named Nurse for Adults, Children and Young People.

Oversee and support the Safeguarding Nurses and Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence Advocate (DASVA).

Ensure the highest standards of safeguarding practice are delivered toadults, children and young people at risk in partnership with all members of the internal and external multi-disciplinary team.

The post holder will undertake complex person-centred safeguarding assessments and care planning for patients at risk of abuse and neglect. Ensure that appropriate referrals are made and followed up in a timely manner to other practitioners and agencies.

• Registered 1st Level Nurse on the NMC register - Child
• Current NMC registration
• Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (Health Visitor or School Nurse qualification)
• Compliant with own Safeguarding mandatory/essential to role safeguarding training
• Evidence of ongoing safeguarding development
• Safeguarding Supervision training
• Trauma Informed Care training
• Evidence of ongoing safeguarding training at level 4
• Graded Care Profile 2 (GCP2)
• DASH training
• Educated to degree level

• Experience of complex case management involving safeguarding children, young people and adults
• Evidence of working across local authority boundaries to co-ordinate patient care
• Experience of designing and delivering training packages
• Evidence of multi-disciplinary working and partnership working
• Carrying out clinical audits and developing recommendations
• Management of own workload to meet clinical priorities and strategic deadlines
• Application of safeguarding frameworks including Right Help, Right Time, Risk Enablement, Think Family, Making Safeguarding Personal
• Experience of attending safeguarding strategy meetings /case conferences/ participating in protection plans
• Experience of practising in a specialist nursing role
• Line management experience including application of HR-related policies
• Experience of attending Best Interests meetings

• Knowledge of Safeguarding/Child Protection legislation including: Children Act (1989 & 2004) Working Together to Safeguard Children (2023)
• Knowledge and understanding of current issues that relate to safeguarding children and adults and their practical application
• Ability to carry out Mental Capacity Act (2005) assessments to a high standard and demonstrate examples of Best Interests decisions
• Excellent awareness of the local safeguarding agendas for adults and children
• Ability to analyse Child Safeguarding Practice Reviews/safeguarding Adults Reviews/ Domestic Abuse Related Death reviews and how they relate to our Trust.
• High degree of analytical skill in supporting and advising clinicians and frontline staff in assessment of safeguarding risk
• Ability to respond effectively to multiple competing priorities within a busy environment
• Ability to deal with confidential information in a sensitive manner
• Awareness of the Mental Capacity (Amendment) Act 2019
