This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Health Care Assistant to join our practice team to undertake all aspects of the Health Care Assistant role.
Main duties of the job
The HCA role is to assist our GPs and Nurses in the delivery of care for our patients. Duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- New patient health checks and NHS Health Checks.
- Venepuncture and the taking and preparing of pathology samples.
- Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature, and pulse rate. Calculate weight, height, BMI, and blood sugar levels, recording findings accurately onto our clinical system.
- Facilitate routine and 24-hour BP monitoring.
- Undertake wound care, dressings, and other clinical tasks as required.
- Carry out ECGs as requested.
- Carry out spirometry testing.
- Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session.
- Ensure fridges are routinely cleaned in accordance with guidance.
- Twice daily fridge temperature monitoring.
- Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the IPC policy.
- Help to raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted.
- Assist with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and wellbeing.
- Adhere to Infection Control procedures.
- Complete administrative duties as required.
- Ensure clinical waste collections run smoothly, reporting any problems to the nursing team.

Our practice team is committed to providing high standards of clinical care and excellent service to patients. We have a strong multidisciplinary team comprising two GPs, a Practice Nurse, Clinical Pharmacist, HCA, and Counsellor. We also have an experienced medical support team of administrators.

- Stock control and ordering
- Fridge temperature recording
- Awareness of national standards of infection control, cleanliness, and regulatory/contractual/professional requirements and good practice guidelines.
- Act as chaperone
- Maintain confidentiality
- Recall system for clinics
- Undertake administrative duties when required, assisting with QOF
- Make suggestions for ongoing development
- Processing of patient samples
- Safe management of sharps procedures, including training, use, storage, and disposal
- Waste management
- Make effective use of training to update knowledge and skills
Person Specification
Qualifications
- Qualified to NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care
- Qualified to NVQ Level 2
- Experience working in a GP Practice
