Overview

Family Help Support Workers - Permanent contracts. From 1 December 2025, our refreshed Pay and Reward package comes into effect, bringing a new approach to how we recognise and reward roles across the Council. The salary for this role will be changing. The pay range for this role will be £33,699 - £39,152 p.a. (pro rata for part time colleagues) from 1 December 2025. We are excited to welcome new colleagues into our workforce under a refreshed pay, terms and conditions framework launching on 01 December 2025. All new appointments will start at the bottom of the pay band to ensure fairness and consistency across the organisation. While the starting salary is fixed, this role offers a fantastic opportunity to grow, contribute meaningfully, and be part of a forward-thinking team. We are committed to improving the quality of life for the people of Bournemouth, Christchurch, and Poole by delivering high-quality services that secure positive outcomes for children, young people, and their families.

Responsibilities
  • As a Family Help Support Worker you will be a key member of the Children & Families First team working with unborn - 17 year olds and their families who have been assessed as needing services under S17 of the Children Act, Child in Need.
  • Deliver high-quality interventions within children, young people and their families in schools, online and other venues.
  • Undertake observation, assessment, direct work and progress tracking to measure outcomes.
  • Engage with community, voluntary providers, and partner agencies to support access to services across the BCP Partnership.
  • Act as a case-holding lead professional, undertaking assessments and creating intervention plans.
  • Ensure the child/young person/family is at the centre of professional planning and intervention.
  • Build collaborative relationships with partners.
  • Apply principles of anti-discriminatory practice to ensure dignity and respect for all children and young people.
  • Work under the direction of the team manager or Senior Practitioner, engaging in reflective case supervision.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Minimum NVQ 4 in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Sound knowledge of child development (0-11 years) and/or adolescence (11-18 years).
  • Experience in completing observations, written assessments, and making evidence-based decisions.
  • Proven experience in delivering direct interventions that improve outcomes for children, young people, and parents/carers.
  • Working knowledge of relevant legislation and statutory guidance.
  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection.

  • Ability to build supportive, positive, and trusting relationships.
  • Committed to continuous professional development and able to coach and mentor others.
  • Solutions-focused with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Able to plan and organize workload in a changing environment with competing demands.
  • Enhanced DBS check; ability to travel across the BCP area using own form of transport.
