Band 2 Health Care Assistant – Frailty Unit (Part‑time, rotational days and nights)

Opening

1A Frailty is a 12‑bedded unit providing excellent care to our elderly patients on Ward AIFU on the Royal site. This is a fantastic opportunity for a band 2 health care assistant to join the team. Responsibilities
  • Assist patients in meeting hygiene needs and carry out all aspects of personal care and grooming, including emptying catheter bags.
  • Provision of patients’ toileting needs, ensuring privacy and dignity is maintained.
  • Support of patients in managing incontinence.
  • Measure patients’ fluid intake and output using fluid balance charts and report information to the Registered Nurse.
  • Preparation and serving of patients’ meals, drinks and snacks; assist feeding when necessary.
  • Assist patients in completing menu forms and liaise with the Catering Department regarding the number of meals needed.
  • Report patients’ dietary intake as indicated in the patients’ plan of care.
  • Carry out any movement and handling within the safe practice guidelines from mandatory training and in relation to the patient’s manual handling plan.
  • Enable patients to maintain/improve their mobility by use of exercise and mobility appliances as directed by individual care plans.
  • Assist in the prevention of pressure sore development as directed by the Registered Nurse in conjunction with the patient’s plan of care.
  • Obtain specimens from patients for ward or laboratory testing.
  • Escort patients to clinical departments within the hospital.
  • Assist the Registered Nurse in performing last offices.
  • General observations of patients, reporting anything untoward to the Registered Nurse.
Qualifications
  • Band 2 – requires RQF 3 or A‑level and above.
  • Previous healthcare assistant experience essential.
  • Band 2s will not be eligible for sponsorship as these roles do not meet the required skill level.
