Descripción del empleo

The HPC Jobs Service supports local people into exciting, long-term careers across our Project.

Group Leaders/First Line Leaders for Nuclear Analysis teams

Gloucester Business Park, Gloucester - with flexibility of working from home, minimum 3 days a week in the office.

Are you enthusiastic about developing a group and leading them towards delivering successful business outcomes across a portfolio of projects? Are you always the one to be recognised as collaborative and empathetic? Are you energised by taking the initiative and finding creative ways to make things better for your clients and your people? Are you known for making effective decisions that deliver business outputs whilst understanding the commercial environment you are operating in? - come and join EDF as a Group Leader!

The Opportunity

As a Group Leader in the Nuclear Analysis Function within Nuclear Services, you'll lead a team delivering high-quality technical work and operational support to our licensees. You'll shape long-term strategy for your group and play a key role in supporting the future demands of an operational European Pressurised Reactor fleet, enabling the long-term operation of Sizewell B, and helping to deliver ongoing support to the Advanced Gas Cooled Reactors as they move towards End of Generation and through defueling.

Our function covers a broad range of specialist expertise critical to reactor safety and performance-spanning nuclear fuel, reactor physics, transient analysis, thermal hydraulics, criticality, radiological consequences, dosimetry and shielding, probabilistic safety analysis (PSA), hazards, severe accident and human factors.

We have exciting opportunities for experienced or aspiring leaders to join our team, with three Group Leader roles currently available.

Reactor Physics and Criticality

The Reactor Physics and Criticality Group oversees the safe management of nuclear fuel and the reactor core, ensuring it can be brought to criticality, controlled, and shut down safely. The team also provides advice and support to ensure adequate controls are in place to prevent criticality outside the reactor during movement and storage of nuclear fuel. Using expertise in nuclear physics, simulation and software techniques, the team applies a range of methods to undertake reactor physics and criticality assessments, from basic calculations to complex modelling.

Hazards

The Hazards group is responsible for considering the impact that hazards could have on the safe operation of our plant and ensure that we have a secure safety case. This includes internal hazards such as fire, flooding, dropped loads, and external hazards from environmental and climatic events. The group includes a sub-team dedicated to risk assessment and adaptation to provide resilience to a changing climate. The Hazards team supports all three Licensees and employs personnel with a wide range of backgrounds to provide both breadth and depth of expertise.

Radiological Consequences, Dosimetry, Shielding, Probabilistic Safety Analysis (PSA), and Severe Accident
This team provides support to the safety case across multiple sub-discipline areas. The Radiological Consequences, Dosimetry, and Shielding team assesses radiation dose to plant and personnel in normal, abnormal and recovery situations, and postulated fault conditions. The PSA team carries out probabilistic analysis, and supports plant design, and design change optioneering. The Severe Accident team manages delivery of the safety studies modelling and interpreting the complex phenomena that can occur in the extreme conditions of a severe accident or core melt scenario.

Pay, benefits and culture

Alongside a competitive salary and a market-leading pension scheme, your package will include a range of benefits, from the big and formal to the small and personal.

We're talking about everything from enhanced parental leave to electric vehicle leasing, health insurance to product discounts, critical illness insurance to technology vouchers, gym membership to season ticket loans.

At EDF UK, we embrace flexibility while recognising that everyone's working needs are different. Whether you're in our office spaces, on site, or working remotely, we promote an environment that supports collaboration, connection, and comfort. No matter where you are, our priority is to make sure you feel safe, valued, and celebrated.

Here, we do right by each other and everyone's welcome. We're on an action-oriented journey, championing equity, diversity, and inclusion. We'd like our future workforce to have an equal gender balance, represent a broad mix of people from minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+, those with a disability and supporting social mobility.

We're a disability confident employer and we'll do all we can to help with your application. Please let us know if you need to request reasonable adjustments.

We take pride in fostering a dynamic and inclusive environment, where the diverse backgrounds and experiences of our employees drive fresh thinking and innovation. We understand that success means different things to different people. We believe there are multiple definitions of what it means to succeed. That's why we support you to pursue a career that's unique to you. Because success is personal.

What you'll be doing

As Group Leader, your focus will be on delivering strategic objectives that align with the Branch, Nuclear Services, and wider Nuclear Family strategies. Clear communication of group priorities, effective resource management, and budget control will be key to ensuring successful delivery. You'll also oversee the planning and execution of activities against task orders, while developing and delivering rolling 5-year business plans.

Success in this role relies on strong stakeholder engagement. You'll be expected to influence and negotiate with senior internal and external stakeholders, while also fostering trusted relationships with regulatory bodies. Managing these partnerships effectively will support both compliance and long-term collaboration.

People leadership is at the heart of this role. You'll support the development and well-being of your team, creating a positive environment that enables individuals to thrive. A continuous improvement mindset will be essential, as you seek out opportunities to grow the group's capability and impact over time.

Who you are

You will have a strong foundation in engineering or science, either through a relevant degree or equivalent experience. You'll demonstrate the ability to navigate change in a dynamic environment, while making sound, robust decisions across a wide range of technical issues. Knowledge of UK nuclear plant design-whether under construction, operational, or being defueled-as well as familiarity with legislative requirements like Nuclear Site Licence Conditions, would be advantageous.

You'll be confident delivering project insights and strategic recommendations to senior leaders, motivating teams to perform at a high level, and ensuring that risks are managed and maintained As Low As Reasonably Practicable (ALARP). Flexibility and collaboration are key, as you'll work closely with multi-disciplinary teams to achieve shared goals in a complex technical landscape.

We're looking for someone with a proactive mindset, capable of adapting to evolving challenges while maintaining a clear focus on safety, performance, and continuous improvement. Your ability to lead with both technical credibility and people-focused leadership will be central to your success in this role.

If this sounds like you then we'd love to hear from you!

To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Counter Terrorist Check (CTC) which will, ordinarily, require you to have British residency for the last 3 years.

For this role you must have evidence of right to work in the UK. As a project, we do not discriminate on the grounds of age, gender, race, colour, religion, disability or sexual orientation, and we welcome applications from all sections of the community.

Why Join Us?

For more than 60 years, nuclear power stations in the UK have been quietly keeping Britain fuelled with massive amounts of home-grown energy.

Our teams up and down the country are proudly continuing to serve the nation - but they also have an eye on the future.

EDF is leading the UK's nuclear renaissance with the construction of a new nuclear power station at Hinkley Point C and plans for a new power station at Sizewell C in Suffolk.

Nuclear power is the most reliable, low-carbon energy source currently available to the UK. EDF is playing a key role in the development of nuclear sites, while Hinkley Point C will provide low-carbon electricity to meet 7% of the UK demand. The project is already making a positive impact on the local and national economy as well as boosting skills and education.

We're not just building new nuclear power stations. We're developing careers, upskilling generations and creating thousands of employment and apprenticeship opportunities across a variety of skills areas.

It takes a special kind of person to work in the nuclear energy industry and although we have thousands of them there's always a need for more.

Our industry has a mind-boggling range of opportunities and more jobs, and in more places, than you might think. But it's also an industry which is changing.

We're a responsible business and proud to be Britain's biggest generator of zero carbon electricity. With size, age and experience, we believe we can do even more.
