Teacher in Charge (Head of Site) - Buckinghamshire Primary Pupil Referral Unit

Buckinghamshire Council
Chesham Bois, Aylesbury
GBP 35,000 - 55,000
Job description
Teacher in Charge (Head of Site) - Buckinghamshire Primary Pupil Referral Unit

Location: Aylesbury

We are looking for an outstanding leader with high aspirations and ambitions for themselves and others to join our senior leadership team.

You could be in an existing leadership role in a school looking for a new challenge, or a middle leader who is looking to step up into a more strategic role. Whatever your background, we want to find someone who shares our passion and values so that the children we support have the best opportunities to succeed, despite some of the challenges they face.

Our new Teacher in Charge will be a proactive, dynamic and enthusiastic leader who will be part of an ambitious team, focused on delivering outstanding teaching and learning, alongside strategies to support the social, emotional and mental health issues presented by our pupils.

Term time only: Yes

Salary Type: Leadership

Salary details: Leadership Pay Spine L7 - L12

Contract type: Permanent

Hours: Full Time

Interviews to be held: Thursday, 8th May 2025 at Pathways PRU, Aylesbury.

About us

We are the Buckinghamshire Primary PRU. We support children who are finding life difficult at their mainstream school. Everyone who works for the PRU is passionate about giving the children we support the best opportunities to succeed, with a great reputation and close links with the mainstream schools in our community so that we can work together to help children overcome barriers and instill a lifelong love of learning.

We are delighted that Ofsted have assessed our provision to be Outstanding across all the categories they include in their report. This can be viewed on our website.

About the role

The role will be based at our PRU site in Aylesbury (Pathways), with travel between the sites as needed. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to and enhance the different provisions offered by the PRU and to further develop your leadership skills and consolidate your excellent behaviour management. You will be supported by other members of the senior leadership team, with a bespoke induction programme to suit your experience and background.

We have high expectations of our pupils, and as Teacher in Charge you will need to be able to challenge and support classroom colleagues to build the curriculum around pupils and their needs. You will be responsible for all aspects of day to day site management together with leading and managing the team based at your site to deliver both inreach and outreach interventions, and for developing effective relationships with colleagues in mainstream schools.

The role also provides opportunities to provide training and advice to colleagues in mainstream schools with their own behaviour management policies and strategies as part of the services commissioned from the PRU by the local authority.

You will be well supported in your role by an enthusiastic and friendly staff team, with opportunities for professional development, and a positive and proactive Management Committee.

Working at the PRU is not always easy, but then nothing worthwhile achieving ever is. Each day brings different challenges and that is why it is so rewarding to work here. You can find more specific details about the PRU, the role and the knowledge skills and qualities we are looking for in the details attached to this advert.

A visit to one of our three sites is highly recommended to help you decide if this is the role for you. Please contact us to make a suitable appointment or alternatively, you can telephone our Head of the PRU for an informal discussion about the role.

We will offer you:

  • A varied and challenging workplace
  • A supportive leadership team
  • Opportunities to develop your leadership and management skills, and to have a real impact on outcomes for pupils through your leadership of others
  • Children who will stretch your skills and test you emotionally
About you

You will be an established and successful leader, who understands the primary curriculum, with a good understanding of what it takes to support pupils with social, emotional and mental health issues.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Can demonstrate a good understanding of outstanding classroom practice
  • Evidence impact in your current leadership/management role
  • Is reflective in practices and relishes the opportunity to lead, inspire and coach others
  • Can demonstrate successfully managing others to achieve high standards
  • Is able to lead initiatives and manage change
  • Is sensitive and supportive to the needs of our unique community

You will have a successful record of working within teams and be able to provide a visible and professional presence to pupils, parents, carers, to colleagues in the local authority and within mainstream schools within the Buckinghamshire area.

If you are innovative, motivated, flexible and resilient and have a proven track record as a successful leader with strong behaviour management practice, then we would like to hear from you.

Other information

Please note that we will be assessing applications as we receive them. We may choose to close the advert early if we feel that we have a sufficient number of quality applicants who are suitable for the role.

Visits to our sites are warmly welcomed. To arrange a visit or to find out more about the role, please contact our school office on the number below.

Please send completed application forms to the email address below.

The PRU operates safe recruitment practices and checks will be made through the Disclosure and Barring Service. All applications must be on Bucks Council application forms.

The Buckinghamshire Primary PRU is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. References will be sought, and an enhanced DBS check and an online profile search will be carried out for shortlisted candidates.
