Data Protection Officer

£36,210.00 per annum & £1,680 car allowance

About The Role

The purpose of the role is to act as the Group’s designated Data Protection Officer, providing advice and guidance around data protection and information governance, ensuring there are robust controls around the Group’s collection, management and processing of data, particularly personal data. The successful candidate will provide assurance to board that the Group remains compliant in our data protection obligations through effective reporting, creative training, awareness campaigns and monitoring.

Key Responsibilities:

Information Governance

• Overall management & coordination of Information Governance (IG) across the group, including developing, promoting & monitoring IG policy and procedures. Developing/embedding an Information Asset framework ensuring suitable owners are identified and engaged, monitoring IG training/knowledge, ensuring systems and processes adhere to IG best practice, awareness of proposed changes to legislation, best practice & regulatory requirements particularly in the Housing & Care sector.
  
  

Data Protection

• Liaising with the Information Commissioners Office on Data Protection matters on behalf of the group, overall management of data requests in line with legislation, developing & monitoring Data Protection policy and procedures, developing a Data Protection learning programme, an annual Data Protection awareness campaign and maintaining knowledge around Data Protection legislation and proposed developments.
  
  

Business Development & Performance Management

• Acting as an ambassador for Business Improvement and change across the Group, promoting the benefits of both planned and underway change, working with the Insight & Innovation team to design, implement and monitor suitable Key Performance Indicators to monitor Group performance against the requirements of relevant Data Protection legislation, benchmarking against suitable peers within sector, and providing managers and leaders with the support, knowledge and tools to effectively identify and resolve performance issues around IG & Data Protection within their areas,

Experience

About You

• Previous experience as a Data Protection practitioner, able to demonstrate your growth in challenging roles
• Excellent knowledge of Data Protection law and a deep understanding of an organisation’s obligations with regards personal data and a subject’s right to access
• Experience in providing practical advice to a wide range of end users on their data protection responsibilities
• Practical experience of designing and delivering engaging and high-quality training and creative awareness campaigns
• Experienced in working in a team to develop policies & procedures that provide assurance around good data governance
  
  

Knowledge

• A relevant degree or a professional qualification in Data Protection Management or Information Governance (IAPP CIPM, CIPT etc) or suitable experience
• Excellent knowledge of Data Protection and legislation, and IG best practice
• Awareness of developments within Data Protection, IG and the wider social housing and care sectors
