Applications are invited for the unique and challenging role of Operational Driver Training Instructor within Learning and Development at Essex Police College and training venues.

Learning and Development is a busy and dynamic environment and this is a high profile and challenging role. As an Operational Driving Instructor you will enhance the delivery of Driver Training through practical application, as part of a team delivering training to the wider force.

The successful candidate must maintain the high standards set by the College of Policing at all times, ensuring the delivery, practice and instruction is provided to students in line with respective guidance.

The successful candidate must be organised and confident, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills. This will be combined with the ability to debrief course attendees, both verbally and in writing, to enable them to develop to their full potential.

An attention to detail and high levels of concentration are also essential.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate current or previous experience of Police Advanced driving and successfully pass the Police Driver Trainers Programme.

Additionally, if you do not already hold the qualifications, you will be required to pass the Training Essentials programme (TEP) and a suitable assessor qualification such as Training, Assessment, and Quality Assurance (TAQA)/TEP 5, as well as a Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) Approved Driving Instructor (ADI).

You will be required to pass assessments at a level enabling you to deliver Advanced Level Training to learners and will achieve competence at each level, Standard/Response/Initial Phase Pursuit and Advanced, where you will be signed off as competent at each stage by an Advanced Instructor.

Applicants will provide evidence of the following essential and desirable skills/experience:

• Strong Interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
• Previous experience or supporting the development of others
• Ability to remain calm, professional and make effective decision
• You hold a Police Advanced Driving Authority.
• Hold a Level 3 Certificate in Learning and Development (equivalent or higher)
• Qualified DVSA ADI.

This opportunity would suit a highly motivated and dynamic individual who can bring their wide experience to a demanding yet rewarding role.

Essex Police offer agile working which allows some flexibility in terms of work arrangements. Due to the operational nature of this role, it will be predominantly office based within an office-based team. Some travel may be required to other police sites to discharge duty.
