Job description
Payroll & HR Assistant – London – Perm – Up to £35,000

We’re supporting a leading London-based transport organisation seeking an Payroll & HR Assistant to join their People team on a permanent basis. With a workforce of 800+, this role offers broad exposure across payroll processing, HR operations and the employee lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

Payroll Support (60%)

  • Process and validate payroll data, ensuring accuracy and timely completion
  • Maintain payroll records, update employee data and action joiners, leavers and changes
  • Liaise with HR Shared Services to resolve payroll queries
  • Investigate pay discrepancies and respond to employee questions

HR Administration (40%)

  • Act as a first point of contact for HR and payroll-related enquiries
  • Support onboarding and offboarding processes, issuing contracts and employee documentation
  • Maintain accurate HRIS records (Cascade), attendance, performance and ER information
  • Assist with policy updates, wellbeing and engagement activities
  • Coordinate Occupational Health referrals, testing and related administration
What We’re Looking For
  • At least 1 years’ experience working in a role with exposure to payroll
  • Strong attention to detail and confidence in handling and validating data
  • Experience using HR systems, ideally Cascade
  • Strong Excel and general IT skills
  • Excellent communication, organisation and stakeholder engagement skills
