Abbott Holliday Partnership is a long-established structural engineering consultancy with over 45 years of experience, specialising in domestic and small commercial projects. As a family-run business, we are embarking on a new phase of investment and growth. We are seeking experienced Principal Structural Engineers to lead projects, manage inspections, and deliver high-quality structural reports and drawings.
The Principal Structural Engineer will be responsible for managing incoming enquiries, carrying out site inspections, producing technical designs, calculations, and reports, as well as supporting business development. This is a home-based role with flexibility to work full or part-time.
Conduct site inspections, surveys, design, calculations, drawings, and reports
Lead project design and specifications requiring advanced expertise
Review and approve reports, drawings, and specifications before client submission
Report directly to the Board of Directors
Assess new enquiries, prepare quotes and invoices, and update CRM systems
Participate in regular board conference calls on business performance and strategy
Contribute to the online project diary to share commitments with the team
Maintain timesheets linked to job reference numbers for P&L tracking
Chartered Engineer status (CEng or equivalent)
Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent)
Strong knowledge of UK Building Regulations and design standards
Excellent written and spoken English, with the ability to produce clear reports and drawings
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, including formatting and layouts
Access to a car with a valid UK driving licence
Team or staff management experience
Proficiency with structural design software and CAD tools
Litigation or expert witness experience (training available)
Business development or client-facing experience
Strong problem-solving skills with practical, client-focused judgement
Confidence to make and defend professional recommendations
Exceptional attention to detail in both technical and written work
Collaborative, can-do attitude with strong communication skills
Ability to present solutions alongside identified challenges
