Reed Education is proud to be working on behalf of a respected secondary school to recruit a Communication and Interaction Specialist. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference by supporting a student with communication and interaction needs, helping them thrive both academically and socially.

Reporting to the SENCo and working closely with the wider SEND team, you will:

• Deliver 1:1 sessions and small group interventions to support students with communication and interaction difficulties, including those with EHCPs.
• Coach and mentor pupils to build confidence, improve social communication, and develop self-regulation strategies.
• Lead focus groups (4–6 students) to enhance language use, active listening, and positive interaction skills.
• Support transition programmes for students joining the school from local feeder schools.
• Collaborate with teachers, parents, and external professionals such as Speech and Language Therapists and Educational Psychologists.
• Maintain accurate records, update pupil profiles, and contribute to annual reviews for EHCP students.
• Promote inclusive classroom practices and provide advice to staff on communication strategies.

We are looking for someone who has:

• A good standard of education, including strong literacy and numeracy skills.
• At least 3 years’ experience supporting children with communication and interaction needs in a school or community setting.
• Strong understanding of SEND legislation and child development.
• Excellent communication skills and a creative approach to problem-solving.
• Experience working collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
