Health & Safety Advisor - Essex

£55,000 - £65,000 + Package

Leading UK Main Contractor

A leading construction main contractor is seeking a Health & Safety Advisor to support major projects across Essex. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced and ambitious H&S professional looking to progress their career within a business known for high standards, strong project delivery, and excellent development opportunities.

The Role

As the Health & Safety Advisor, you will support site teams in maintaining safe working environments and ensuring full compliance with company policies and UK legislation. You will work closely with Project Managers, Site Managers, and the wider HSQE team to drive a proactive safety culture and promote best practice across all projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the delivery of safe and compliant construction sites at all times
  • Assist with implementing company Health & Safety policies to prevent injury, ill health, damage, and wastage
  • Develop a strong understanding of statutory requirements affecting construction operations
  • Promote safety standards and ensure all employees and subcontractors understand their responsibilities
  • Carry out regular site safety inspections and provide feedback to the site and management teams
  • Ensure actions from inspections and reports are closed out within required timescales
  • Challenge unsafe behaviours and support corrective actions where required
  • Assist Project Managers with accident and incident investigations, producing timely close‑out reports
  • Deliver site inductions for operatives and subcontractors where appropriate
  • Ensure welfare facilities, site setups, and statutory notices are properly maintained
  • Support the permit-to-work process and ensure documentation is completed correctly
  • Support COSHH compliance, including correct storage and environmental protection
  • Review RAMS to ensure they are suitable and safe for the planned works
  • Undertake other reasonable H&S-related duties as required by senior management
Skills & Experience Required
  • NEBOSH Construction Certificate (essential)
  • Experience working on UK construction sites
  • Full, clean driving licence
  • Strong knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation
  • Ability to interpret legislation and apply practical controls on-site
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Comfortable working in fast-paced construction environments
  • Confident engaging with teams at all levels
