A typical week will include 1 day a week studying a distance learning course, 3-4 days a week working and gaining experience in the pharmacy and intermittent days in the GP Surgery linked to the pharmacy [Long Hanborough Surgery and Eynsham Medical Centre] . You will have a pharmacist educational supervisor who will guide you through the course and train you on the job. In the pharmacy you will be giving patients advice, dispensing prescriptions, organising the dispensary, and providing personalised solutions that help people lead healthier lives. You will also be trained in supporting the pharmacist to provide a range of pharmacy services such as vaccinations, blood pressure checks, and minor illness clinics. In the GP surgery you will manage patient requests for prescriptions, reconcile medications following discharge from hospital or following up out-patient appointments, contact patients to ensure they understand any changes to their medication, and liaise with community pharmacies when necessary. You will need to have confidence, be a team player, be self-motivated, with good customer skills, and the ability to communicate well with patients. Strong IT skills and the ability to learn fast are essential. You must have a desire to grow and develop quickly.
