An opportunity has arisen for a Strategic Project Manager to join the International Change Delivery team, based in Munich or Cologne.
Working closely with the European Chief Operating Officer and with exposure to the local executive team, the individual will be responsible for supporting strategic priorities by implementing business and technical solutions. They will be working across a broad range of initiatives and stakeholder groups, from hands on operational challenges to helping shape more strategic solutions to support future growth.
Strategic Project Manager (m/w/d) Your tasks
- As a key member of the European change team, you will work closely with the COO of Europe, business sponsors, and IT to define and mobilize priority projects, ensuring they are set up for success.
- You will be responsible for planning and leading the delivery of selected strategic initiatives, driving clarity, alignment, and measurable progress across high-priority efforts.
- Acting as a trusted thought partner to the COO Europe, you will contribute to decision-making processes and prepare executive-level presentations, decision papers, and discussion materials.
- In this role, you will structure and coordinate complex cross-functional topics, and work collaboratively with business and IT teams on resourcing and project delivery across Europe.
- You will also proactively manage risks and issues, remove potential blockers, and identify opportunities to accelerate outcomes.
- Supporting the transition of projects into business-as-usual operations, you will help ensure benefits are owned, realized, and measured effectively.
- Finally, you will liaise with colleagues in the International Change Delivery team to apply best practices in change management and strengthen governance across Markel International.
This is what sets you apart:
- You are fluent in English, both written and verbal, and able to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
- You hold a university degree (Bachelor's or Master's), and may have further relevant qualifications. You bring at least four years of professional experience in consulting, project management, or strategic business roles. Experience in the insurance sector is desirable.
- You have successfully led and delivered projects independently and are comfortable working in cross-functional and dynamic environments.
- You possess strong analytical and communication skills, with a natural ability to break down complexity and inform decision-making.
- You have proven experience of working in complex organizational settings and delivering measurable business outcomes.
- You demonstrate a high attention to detail, paired with a structured and self-driven work style.
- Ideally, you hold a recognized project management certification, and are familiar with Agile delivery methodology.
- You are confident in using Microsoft applications for the planning, tracking, and reporting project activities and management information.
