Yorkville University

Jobbeschreibung

We are looking for the visionaries, the change-makers, and the self-starters who are seeking more from their career. Change begins with the small decisions we make, each day, to support each other, and strive to create inspiring, incredible educational experiences for all students, no matter where they are, or how they learn. In choosing a career with Yorkville University, you will have the opportunity to push boundaries, flex your creativity, and inspire positive change for so many people.

Our core values put the student experience at the center of what we do, reflecting who we are, and aspire to be. If you want to shine a light on academic excellence, be empowered to make an impact on the transformation of the Canadian post-secondary education landscape, and work collaboratively beyond levels, join us.

Who we need

Reporting to the University Librarian (UL), we are hiring an Information Literacy Librarian (ILL) for a 13-month contract. In this role, you will design and deliver tailored library services, instruction, and academic support across both on-campus and online learning environments. You will lead the library’s information literacy programming, collaborating with Student Success Librarians as needed to expand its reach and impact. By working closely with faculty, students, and staff, you will play a key role in advancing teaching, learning, and research initiatives, ensuring the library meets the university community’s evolving information and research needs.

This is a 13-month contract, hybrid role, working 2-3 days per week onsite at our campus in New Westminster.

What’s in it for you

Impact. You want to channel your passion for innovative teaching and learning approaches toward developing library instructional webinars, presentations, and best practices to support student learning, success, and retention.

Exposure. You want to expand your reach and impact both creatively and strategically. You will work cross-functionally to identify and assess student needs and design and deliver webinars and videos to meet their needs further. You will represent library services at curriculum, faculty, and campus meetings.

Managerial oversight. You are excited by the opportunity to coordinate instructional activities and contribute to the development of a seamless, first-class library experience. You will play a key role in overseeing and aligning the student Success librarian's instructional efforts, ensuring consistency, collaboration, and effectiveness across the library’s information literacy programming.

Career growth. Yorkville University is a progressive, forward-thinking, innovative education centre. Joining us now is a genuine opportunity for builders who want to work in higher education. You want to further your leadership skills by taking on managerial responsibilities to ensure a seamless, first-class library experience that prioritizes student success and engagement.

As our Information Literacy Librarian, you will:

  • Be a trusted advisor. You will be a go-to source of information and expertise, supporting students, faculty, and staff. You will answer research and reference questions, deliver instruction onsite and online, and guide users in navigating information resources. Every day will bring variety as you balance instructional sessions, respond to service requests, develop library resources, attend curriculum meetings, and support logistics such as textbook management.
  • Deliver comprehensive information literacy programming. You will design, develop, and lead instructional programs and resources for a diverse range of academic programs across Yorkville University and Toronto Film School. In partnership with the University Librarian, you will coordinate the instructional activities of the Student Success Librarians (SSL) to provide targeted support in areas such as bibliographic software, database research, APA citation, and artificial intelligence tools. You will also create engaging video tutorials, library guides, and digital learning materials to enhance accessibility and improve student and faculty experiences.
  • Analyze data. You will establish and track key metrics, gather feedback, and prepare reports to evaluate the effectiveness of information literacy programming, aligning with library instruction standards and best practices.
  • Collaborate. You will regularly engage in activities like reviewing course syllabi, collaborating with curriculum design, attending curriculum committee meetings, etc., to identify and assess student needs. You will participate in university-wide initiatives, including serving on key university committees, regulatory meetings, and other special projects as assigned.
  • Deliver library services. You will promote information literacy and other library services on-campus and online. You will provide reference and research support in person and online via email, phone, video (e.g., Teams or Zoom) and/or the ASK YU/TFS service request system. You will lead library orientations (and other social and academic events) across campus classes, focusing on on-campus and online delivery methods. You will serve as the primary library liaison for undergraduate, graduate, or subject specializations.
  • Optimize. You will research emerging trends and scholarship in higher education to inform library instructional strategies, student success, and assessment standards (e.g., Artificial Intelligence tools). You will contribute to a positive organizational culture that supports equity, inclusion, learning, and wellness.

You have:

  • The education and experience. You have a Master’s in Library and Information Science (ALA-accredited). You have an academic and practical understanding of the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education (and/or other frameworks relevant to librarianship and adult education). You have experience managing library staff to ensure smooth daily operations. You have demonstrable experience designing, producing, and assessing library instructional content on the job or through graduate-level coursework.
  • The technical and research skills. You are familiar with the American Psychological Association (APA) citation style. You can organize workflow and manage multiple projects. You have in-depth knowledge of best practices in information literacy instruction. You are comfortable with library and educational software such as Brightspace, LibGuides, EBSCO Discovery, Zotero, and Microsoft 365. You are proficient in videoconferencing tools (Teams, Zoom, etc.) for online orientation.
  • The passion. You approach your work with genuine curiosity and a creative, innovative mindset. You love helping others navigate complex research and resource issues. You are committed to ongoing learning, continuous improvement, and professional development. You adhere to a service-first philosophy, emphasizing diplomacy, patience, and care for student well-being.
  • The interpersonal skills. You have exceptional verbal and written communication skills. You have experience delivering presentations, workshops, and research support for diverse audiences. You can build working relationships with cross-functional, internal, and external business partners, positioning yourself as a trusted advisor. You thrive in an autonomous role and as part of a collaborative team. You share our commitment to diversity and inclusion, working with users of all ages and from diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and academic backgrounds.

Why work at Yorkville University and Toronto Film School?

  • An atmosphere that successfully blends an entrepreneurial culture with education. We value innovation and continuously look towards expanding our programming, working with the latest research, tools and solutions. As a private school with government approval of our offerings, we have the opportunity to do more, stay current and be future-forward.
  • The chance to accelerate your career and disrupt education by responding to the needs you see and purposefully challenging the status quo. Everything we do here is about delighting and engaging our employees - and ultimately our students- from mentorship to teaching, from creative outlets to analytical ones.
  • A place where all individuals feel welcomed in the academic and workplace environments and can bring their authentic selves to the educational and work spheres. We celebrate the full range of human diversity, and we acknowledge that equal access to opportunities and services may require the removal of barriers that equity-seeking communities experience in trying to obtain this access.

Compensation: Base salary is $75-80K annually, adjusted for the length of the contract.
