Are you passionate about preparing fresh foods, creating delicious cuisines, and presenting meals artfully? Our cooks play a vital role in enriching our residents' lives through a welcoming dining experience. Under the guidance of the Dining Services Manager or designate, the cook is responsible for preparing and plating attractive, nutritious meals and snacks, while maintaining a clean and sanitary kitchen in accordance with Eco-Sure and health regulations.

• Minimum grade 12 education.
• At least 2 years of experience in large-volume food preparation, cooking, and plating techniques.
• Graduation from a recognized college food preparation program is preferred; Certified Red Seal or equivalent is preferred. Must hold a valid regional food handler’s certificate.
• Effective communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
• Familiarity with computerized online ordering systems.
• Strong knife skills, basic baking skills, and proficiency in food preparation.
• Dependable, responsible, and able to work well independently and in a team.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

• Participate in and adhere to continuous quality improvement standards.
• Prepare and cook food for residents and guests, ensuring meals are plated attractively and adhere to sanitation, safety, and dietary restrictions.
• Assist in training and supervising staff involved in food preparation and service. Supervise meal preparation in the absence of the Dining Services Manager/Supervisor.
• Follow infection control protocols and manage outbreak procedures.
• Handle receiving, storage, and inventory control of ingredients to ensure availability.
• In the absence of the Dining Services Manager/Supervisor, handle purchasing of food and supplies.
• Forecast food production needs and plan for effective use of leftovers, maintaining portion control.
• Maintain cleanliness of the kitchen and equipment.
• Conduct food temperature checks and document as required.
• Prepare snack trays for daily functions.
• Keep the Dining Services Manager informed of staff performance.
• Communicate effectively with co-workers, residents, and guests, addressing concerns during dining service.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Dining Services Manager or delegate.
• Comply with all policies, procedures, and mandatory training requirements.
• Follow occupational health and safety regulations, participate in safety programs, fire drills, and hazard reporting.
