We are always looking for talented Software Developers to join our Engineering team!

Reporting to the Team Lead, Engineering, you will work with the team to build the software that powers the Zensurance data collection, rating and pricing engines. Using Nodejs and Typescript, you will be responsible for providing technical guidance and enforcing best practices in software development.

In addition, as a senior team member, you will be expected to coach, mentor software developers, and assist the Engineering Leadership Team in continuously improving craft capabilities.

This is a remote-first role within the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). #LI-Remote


Responsibilities:
  1. Take ownership of the development of custom features and drive their technical implementation.
  2. Act as the Subject Matter Expert for the team’s domain and drive its technical direction.
  3. Suggest, design, implement, test and monitor features and functionalities.
  4. Facilitate cross-team collaboration in accordance with established best practices and Agile methodology.
  5. Evangelize proper software architecture and development paradigms.
  6. Collaborate with project stakeholders and the development team to design and build scalable, user-friendly systems for our customers, and in-house tooling.
  7. Discuss strategy and outline tradeoffs of potential software solutions.
  8. Develop, test, and maintain codebase within the team’s domain.
  9. Write clean, maintainable, and scalable code.
  10. Contribute to knowledge sharing of new technologies and solutions which fall within the team’s area of expertise.
  11. Offer guidance and mentorship to junior and intermediate team members.
  12. Develop and maintain documentation for new and existing features and integrations.
  13. Develop an understanding of company goals.
  14. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  1. University degree or college diploma in a recognized technical, vocational, or academic program (preferably in Engineering or Computer Science) or equivalent work experience.
  2. 5+ years building rich, complex web applications.
  3. Experience architecting and augmenting large software systems.
  4. Extensive fullstack experience with Nodejs/AWS/Reactjs and the TypeScript ecosystem.
  5. Experience with microservices.
  6. Experience working with MongoDB.
  7. Experience with back-end development using NestJS.
  8. Understanding of web security best practices and data protection.
  9. Knowledge of containerization using Docker and orchestration with Kubernetes.
  10. A passion for clean, reusable, and well-structured code.
  11. Ability to communicate efficiently.
  12. Ability to mentor, coach, and work with others collaboratively.
  13. A commitment to continuous improvement, continuous learning, and knowledge sharing.
