Job description

This is not your typical job. Discover what it means to Practice Differently with Carrier Sekani Family Services as Collaborative Practices Facilitator.

Imagine this: A mother, a grandfather, a social worker, and an auntie gather around a table. There’s coffee on the table, a few toys in the corner for the little ones. Emotions are running high, but the room is calm. Everyone is here because something must change and we all want healing to occur. At the center of this gathering is you .

As a Collaborative Practices Facilitator , you won’t just manage logistics or lead conversations. You will help guide families through some of the hardest decisions they’ll ever face, with compassion, clarity, and a deep belief that when people are given space to speak and to listen, healing is possible.

Who You Are

You are not the loudest voice in the room, but you are often the one people turn to when things feel overwhelming. You carry strength and calm. You know how to hold space for big feelings without being pulled under by them. You understand that family resolution isn’t about winners or losers, it’s about creating a path where the child wins, and the family heals.

You Are

  • A natural collaborator , skilled at building trust with families, communities, and professionals.
  • Guided by a trauma-informed approach , understanding the impact of past experiences on current behaviors.
  • Grounded in cultural safety and awareness , especially when working with Indigenous communities- honoring the histories, values, and ways of knowing that shape each family.
  • Aware that neutrality matters . You don’t take sides, you make space for all sides.
  • Comfortable in the unpredictable- you may be in a boardroom one day and sitting beside a river the next.
  • Able to adapt quickly and remain flexible in your work, your environment, and your methods- including shifting between different dispute resolution models as needed.
  • Skilled at navigating emotionally charged conversations with kindness, respect, and humility .

Passionate about ensuring that every voice is heard, not just the loudest or most powerful.

What You’ll Do

Your Days Will Be As Diverse As The Families You Serve. Some Days, You’ll Be Coordinating Childcare And Printing Intake Forms. Others, You’ll Be Navigating Tense, Emotional Discussions That Could Shift The Trajectory Of a Child’s Life. Always, You Will

  • Connect with families to determine their fit for the program, gathering essential background information with care and respect.
  • Facilitate respectful and clear communication , guiding challenging conversations while ensuring all parties feel heard, respected, and understood.
  • Support families in preparing for the dispute resolution process- helping them identify key people in their lives (extended family, Elders, advocates, service providers), and reaching out to invite and prepare them.
  • Clarify expectations , ensuring everyone understands their rights, their roles, and the voluntary nature of participation.
  • Coordinate the logistics of conferences, including arranging venues, meals, transportation, and childcare- making it as easy as possible for families to show up and feel supported.
  • Facilitate family meetings where hard conversations happen- making space for every voice to be heard, and for decisions to be made collaboratively, with dignity and heart.
  • Bring a trauma-informed approach to your work, creating emotionally and physically safe spaces for families to heal and grow.
  • Practice with cultural humility and cultural safety , ensuring services respect the identity, traditions, and lived experiences of each family

What You Bring

You’re Not Just Clinically Skilled, You’re Relentless In Your Belief That Families Can Grow Stronger. Ideally, Your Knowledge And Experiences Include The Following

While having a Bachelors of Social Work or related field is preferred, at CSFS, we understand that knowledge and experience may come from a variety of sources and encourage applications from individuals whose backgrounds may not align perfectly.

  • Diploma in Social Services related field
  • Experience working in child welfare work is an asset
  • Experience in Alternative Dispute Resolution Processes
  • Experience or certification in Mediation or Conflict Coaching is an asset

Where You’ll Work

Prince George sits on the traditional lands of the Lheidli T'enneh First Nation and is the largest city in northern B.C. It is a community that includes the renowned University of Northern B.C. and the College of New Caledonia, affordable housing, complemented by an international airport.
