Job Summary

This postion of Consultant, Financial Policy & Research is responsible for identifying and securing grants funding for the City of Mississauga.

Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager, Strategic Financial Initiatives, the successful candidate is responsible for:

  • Monitor government trends to forecast federal and provincial funding opportunities, enabling successful project alignment.
  • Research, promote, and market grant and funding programs to internal stakeholders.
  • Provide recommendations to management on corporate priorities for external funding.
  • Build and maintain relationships with current and prospective fund providers, including businesses and government agencies.
  • Assist in preparing legal agreements related to secured funding.
  • Draft correspondence, briefing notes, corporate reports, funding strategies, and policies.
  • Maintain grant dashboard reports for the Mayor, Council, and Leadership Team.
  • Conduct financial reviews, modeling, and analysis of funding opportunities in relation to the City’s Business Plan and Budget.
  • Participate in the claims submission process to secure grant funding transfers.
  • Contribute to the development of related financial policies.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
Skills and Qualifications
  • Post-secondary degree in Public Policy, Economics, Business, Finance or a related field. With a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in a municipal or public sector environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Excellent research, verbal, and written skills with the ability to write comprehensive and complex documents, reports and business cases;
  • Demonstrated leadership, team building skills and strong interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders including members of council, regional partners and government agencies;
  • Ability to manage multiple projects often with competing priorities;
  • Strong organizational and problem solving skills;
  • Capacity to work independently and collaboratively, coordinating cross-functional teams;
  • Ability to work effectively under pressing deadlines;
  • Ability to research, collect, and analyze large amounts of information and data;
  • Proficiency with related computer software applications, particularly MS Office. Knowledge of SAP and Questica systems an asset
