Status: Summer Employment (June 2026 - August 2026)

Hours: June - 35 hrs/week, July & August - 42.5 hrs/week

Home Campus: Fennell

Rate of Pay: $18.00/hr

Job Summary

Mohawk College is currently recruiting for Runners/Floaters, Mohawk Summer Camp.

This position will report to the Camp Coordinator and will be responsible for the preparation/set‑up of all activities and games, assisting fellow camp staff with room organization, greeting guest presenters, assist with high volume registration, fill in as a counsellor where needed and other duties as assigned. You are dynamic individuals who can jump in to a variety of camps, and provide campers with a great experience. Mohawk Summer Camps runs for 8 weeks in July and August for ages 4-12.

What you’ll be doing:

The duties of this position include, but are not limited to:

Behind the Scenes Preparation
  • Act as a positive role model at all times.
  • Assist with the organization of the groups during the sign‑in/out times.
  • Support the daily program in each activity.
  • Check in daily with Counsellors and Coordinators about any early/late pickups.
  • Assist with camper name badges.
  • Identify crafts that need to be delivered and make a schedule and identify who will deliver which supplies.
  • Open communication with staff members.
  • Help prepare/plan outdoor and indoor activities and provide imaginative day‑to‑day programming for every week.
  • Use interactive strategies through activities and games to capture interest and appreciation for Camp.
  • Help all children develop intellectually, socially, physically and emotionally by interaction and play.
  • Welcome guest presenters and bring them to the designated location.
Camper Supervision
  • Consistently communicate with parents and other team members to ensure a successful camp experience for everyone involved.
  • Actively participate in programming and planning.
  • Participate in active games, sports, swimming and other activities.
  • Be energetic and flexible.
  • Work as part of a team to ensure that everyone has a positive camp experience.
  • Be looking to develop skills that are transferable to a variety of professional opportunities.
Other Duties as Required.
What you’ll bring to the role:
  • Completion of high school diploma or current student in post‑secondary seeking a career path working with children or similar experience working with children between the ages of 4-12.
  • Standard First Aid with CPR Level ’C’ (Required).
  • Vulnerable Sector Check - VS Checks are to be obtained from the Municipality in which you permanently reside at your own expense. Please check your local Police Services website to confirm what identification is required, cost and payment method. Upon an offer you must provide an original VS Check as indicated above with a “Date of Search” of less than sixty (60) days from hire date. VS Checks greater than sixty (60) days will not be accepted.
  • Experience working with children aged 4-12 in a camp or coach setting.
  • Experience in a customer‑facing role.
  • Experience with neurodiverse people considered an asset.
  • Experience with parent communication in a professional setting is considered an asset.
  • Effective communication skills both written and verbally.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others including senior management.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of all information related to children, parents, and staff.
  • Lead by example; be a role model for campers and staff.
  • A spirit of patience, positivity, compassion and fun.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older at the time of hire.
  • Demonstrated commitment and understanding of human rights, equity, diversity and inclusion with the ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse groups of students, employees and the community.
