Job Description
WSP has a new opportunity for a Tailings Engineer to join our Mine Waste team on a full-time basis in Midrand.
This is an intermediate-level position within the consulting team, regarded as a professional responsible for delivering tailings and geotechnical services in line with WSP's engineering standards.
Key duties and responsibilities include :
Serving as the first intermediate level in the consulting stream.
Possessing strong general technical skills with developing specialist skills in a technical discipline, possibly including project management.
Demonstrating independence in completing work tasks.
Making decisions of moderate complexity with input and review from senior staff.
Overseeing and managing projects or tasks, interpreting data, analyzing, and developing conclusions and recommendations.
Acting as the main communication link between senior and junior staff.
Providing technical guidance to junior staff.
Contributing to proposals and preparing comprehensive reports.
Understanding WSP business systems, especially those related to quality.
Having regular contact with external clients.
Reviewing work performed by others.
Providing tailings services and technical advice on complex issues within the mining industry.
Applying advanced techniques and theories to analyze data for decision-making.
Managing and analyzing tailings and geotechnical reports, including design, inspection, operation, and closure of mine waste facilities.
Providing leadership in health and safety.
Participating in training, mentoring, and knowledge transfer activities.
Planning and coordinating manpower on engineering projects to meet deadlines.

Qualifications
Relevant degree (BEng or BSc) in Civil Engineering with 8+ years of post-graduation experience in tailings and geotechnical engineering.
Professional registration at ECSA preferred.
Knowledge of legislation related to water use and waste management licenses.
Financial understanding related to project billing and accounts.
Proven project leadership skills in mine waste projects.
Proficiency in MS Office, slope stability analysis, seepage analysis, and related software; additional engineering software skills are a plus.
