A marine service provider in Singapore is seeking a candidate with a minimum of 25 years' experience in marine communications and navigation electronics. The role involves troubleshooting, verifying bridge equipment, and complying with safety procedures. Applicants should have a diploma/degree in relevant fields and GMDSS-related certificates. Responsibilities include liaising with professionals and performing vessel compliance surveys. This position requires skills in interpreting technical manuals and being safety-conscious.
Minimum 25 years relevant experience in marine communications and navigation electronics onboard vessels and/or at shipyards, including troubleshooting, servicing and commissioning.
Strong working knowledge of GMDSS systems and testing: VHF, MF/HF, Inmarsat / satellite terminals, EPIRB, SART, NAVTEX, including configuration and functional verification.
Hands‑on experience servicing and verifying bridge/communication equipment such as Radar/ARPA, AIS, GPS, and VDR/S‑VDR (health checks, sensor inputs, troubleshooting, and reporting).
Ability to perform survey preparation and documentation for vessel compliance (e.g., radio survey readiness, deficiency rectification support, test records, and technical reports acceptable to owners/class).
Able to interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams and interface drawings; competent with onboard fault‑finding using test instruments.
Good communication skills to liaise professionally with Masters/Chief Engineers, ship managers/superintendents, shipyards and class surveyors.
Willing to attend vessels at anchorage/berth/shipyard and respond to urgent call‑outs when required.
Safety‑conscious and able to comply with shipboard/shipyard safety procedures (permit‑to‑work, risk assessments, PPE).
Experience supporting or interfacing with classification society requirements (e.g., ABS, BV, DNV, LR, ClassNK) and closing out survey findings.
OEM training / familiarity with common marine electronics makers (e.g., JRC, Furuno, Jotron, Sailor, Cobham, Sperry, Yokogawa or equivalent).
Relevant maritime/electronics qualifications (Diploma/Degree in Electronics/Telecommunications/Marine Engineering or equivalent) and/or GMDSS‑related certificates.
Experience mentoring junior technicians and developing service checklists/SOPs.
