The Maritime Energy & Sustainable Development Centre of Excellence (MESD CoE) was launched in October 2017 and is jointly funded by Singapore Maritime Institute (SMI) and Nanyang Technological University (NTU). MESD aims to be a leading global translational research centre in maritime energy and sustainable development. The Centre calls for talents with inspiration in maritime decarbonisation to join the team and is searching for Research Fellows to work on research projects aimed at exploring alternative fuels and energy sources for the maritime industry.

The Research Fellow will investigate the solutions of electrification as the next-generation alternative energy and assess its compatibility for maritime applications. The Research Fellow will examine:

1. Harbour craft electrification
2. Supporting infrastructure and electric distribution system
3. Life cycle assessment of emission savings
4. Impact on port operations
5. Other related fields

The Research Fellow will also be responsible for:

1. Drafting proposals
2. Preparing project reports and papers for publications
3. Conducting experiments
4. Making presentations to stakeholders

As a Research Fellow with the opportunity to lead your own research topic, you are expected to:

1. Identify research topics with high relevance and impact to the maritime industry in the area of maritime energy and sustainable development
2. Work closely with agencies and industry to understand their needs and attain collaboration
3. Liaise with project stakeholders, including funding agencies, industrial partners, and academic staff in universities and institutes (locally and internationally)

Ph.D. in: Maritime Studies, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Environmental, Electrical Engineering, Energy or a related field

Additional Qualifications:

1. Extensive understanding of decarbonisation initiatives
2. Ability to develop and manage R&D projects with a good understanding of industrial needs
3. A good team member with strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working independently
4. Good command of English, both oral and written, with the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of individuals and professional groups
