The role of the Performance Chemicals - Business Manager & Managing Director BASF Saudi Arabia involves several key responsibilities and tasks:

General Responsibilities

  • Be aware and support the implementation of the company strategies (both Global and Regional level) within one’s scope of responsibility.

Performance Chemicals - Business Manager & Managing Director BASF Saudi Arabia

Role

The incumbent main role is to support the growth of the Performance Chemicals (EV) organization and its strategy in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The division of EV comprises the business units Chemical Catalysts, Refinery Catalysts, Plastic Additives, Fuel and Lubricant Solutions, Mining Solutions, and Oilfield Solutions, of which different focus will be put on selected aspects from the below task list:

  • Drive Sales & Business Growth: Achieve or exceed sales targets by expanding business with existing customers and identifying new opportunities, while managing key accounts and partnerships.
    • Support local account manager to reach his/her financial targets, Successful Execution of SBU strategy; Develop and maintain power map and account plans together with local AM.
  • Customer Relationship Management: Develop and maintain strong customer relationships, including account planning, stakeholder mapping, and addressing customer-specific needs.
    • Enable and maintain network at key stakeholders and Senior Management at selected Global Key Accounts, Regional Key Accounts, local petrochemical, oil and gas, mining and fertilizer companies; Facilitating customer events from trainings to roadshows.
  • Strategy & Implementation:
    • Define potential localization plans and support the implementation of the same for IVC (in-country value) optimization e.g. via local suppliers, local tollers or other local business partners.
  • Operational & Forecasting Excellence:
    • Local business enablement in close collaboration with the different EV functions.
    • Ensure accurate product forecasting, inventory control, and proactive supply chain coordination to maintain product availability and working capital efficiency.
  • Digital Tools & Reporting: Utilize customer relationship management tool (Salesforce) and other systems (e.g. PMM Light) for customer interactions, visit reporting, pricing accuracy, and internal communication.
  • Market Insight & Team Development: Gather market intelligence, stay informed on industry trends, and support internal capability building through mentoring and collaboration.
Managing Director

  • Ultimate accountability for all affairs and business operations of the legal entity in line with applicable legal frameworks and instructions of the shareholders, supported by and with a complementing role to the activities of BASF’s Operating Divisions, Technology Platforms, Corporate Center, Global Service Units.
  • Ensuring the License to Operate, including but not limited to the following areas of responsibility (described in more detail in the corporate requirements): Compliance, Finance Matters, Tax, Excise, Customs Duties, Social Security Contributions, Trade Control, HR & Labor Management, Environmental Protection, Occupational Health, Safety and Quality (EHSQ), Crisis Management / Communication.
  • Ensuring that the legal entity has the appropriate organizational structure to conduct its intended activity and ensuring the proper delegation of duties, and continuously control, monitor and, if needed, adjust the existing organizational set-up.
  • Responsibility to observe the cost budget, to supervise and, if appropriate, challenge, the functional and operational costs in the legal entity.
  • Navigating the complexities of managing a legal entity. Managing the LE with multiple business units effectively by ensuring close collaboration with all present business units to maintain a trusting and continuous exchange.
  • Advocating for a regulatory framework in the country that enables business units’ strategies.
  • Disciplinary Leadership: Leading and motivating the sales and leadership team in the region.
  • Ensure compliance with BASF safety standards.

What You Offer

  • Master's degree in science or higher, preferably in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or equivalent
  • Experience in implementing long-term strategies, managing change, and leading an organization to success
  • Proven track record of strong leadership experience at a senior level
  • Understanding of financial reporting, budgeting, and fiscal management with Network and experience in related industries
  • Customer focus, entrepreneurial drive, self-development and effective communication skills
  • Proven record in managing a diverse team and creating an inclusive work environment
  • Ability to analyze complex problems and make informed decisions
  • Knowledge of Saudi Labor Law and Understanding of the Oil and Gas industry in Saudi Arabia
  • Experience with MS Office is required; SAP, PMM, and Salesforce is a plus
  • Fluent in English and Arabic (written and oral)
