Job summary

A leading precision engineering company in Penang is seeking a Tool Room Technician responsible for the maintenance and management of cutting tools and equipment. The candidate will select, install, and monitor CNC tools, ensuring optimal operation while collaborating with CNC machinists. An engineering diploma or equivalent experience is essential, along with a strong understanding of CNC tools. This position offers a chance to enhance skills in a dynamic work environment.

Qualifications

  • Certificate or diploma in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in related work.
  • Good understanding of CNC tooling.

Responsibilities

  • Manage maintenance and operations of cutting tools.
  • Select and maintain tools for CNC milling machines.
  • Monitor tool wear and sharpen as needed.
  • Ensure correct tool issuance to the production team.
  • Collaborate with machinists for optimal tool parameters.

Skills

Understanding CNC cutting tools

Job description

Responsible for the overall maintenance and management of cutting tools, TDM machines, and tool holders in the tool room.

Select, install, and maintain cutting tools for CNC milling machines.

Monitor tool wear and replace or sharpen tools as needed.

Set up and calibrate tool heads to ensure precision and efficiency.

To ensure correct cutting tools are issued to the operation team for production use.

To manage, maintain and update the TDM System.

Maintain inventory of cutting tools and tooling components.

To perform stock take for all tool inventory every 6 months.

Maintain records of tool usage, wear patterns, and replacements.

To issue correct quantity and types of raw materials to the operation team.

Collaborate with CNC machinists and programmers to optimize tool selection and machining parameters.

Troubleshoot tooling issue and recommend improvements to enhance productivity and tool life.

Ensure work safety, proper tool handling and 5s are practiced in the Tool Room.

To support any ad‑hoc work assignment from superior.

Requirements
  • Certificate/Diploma in Precision Machining/ Manufacturing Technology/ Mechanical/ Mechatronic Engineering or equivalent; or minimum 1 year of related experience and training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Good understanding of CNC cutting tools and holder for CNC machines.
  • Ability to read, understand and interpret technical drawings.
  • Good understanding of Geometrical Dimensional & Tolerances is an added advantage.
